I'm basically annoyed with my H tonight because I've had the kids all day and no grown ups to talk to, when he came home, he's all at me trying to chat with him. I've left him with the kids and rather than take to me, he's kept them up late. I feel a bit childish sulking, but I feel really ignored.

I read somewhere than men need to speak some 3000-4000 words per day in order to fulfill their need for communication, whereas women need to speak 10000 words per day. Which is why what you describe is so common . He won't have a clue why you're grumpy.

Sometimes men need to unwind silently, when you need to unwind verbally, or even just to talk, they appear to be on a completely different planet to us. I try not to jump all over dh when he comes home, but boy do I talk to/with/at him later!
