I'm shopping for their gifts today, they left our gift last week unexpectedly. I want to peek so I can decide what to buy (how much to spend) for them, or AIBU

Surely you should just buy what you can afford/want to spend and what you think they like?

What they give you should be irrelevant

Fudgeface123 · 23/12/2013 11:19

YABVU, can you not just get what you think they'll like rather than putting a price limit on it?!

stubbs0412 · 23/12/2013 11:27

Oh how cynical ... Now you see I didn't think of it that way, I genuinely don't want to look stingy or Ott.

Yes, definitely peep!

WaitMonkey · 23/12/2013 11:37

I had no idea people did this. Hmm

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 23/12/2013 11:39

I opened mine early coz I got a bit over excited, it prompted me to go out and buy MIL something else Blush

HyvaPaiva · 23/12/2013 11:43

It's not about matching style of gift or cost of gift. Just get them something that is within your budget and suits their personality and interests. I don't get why you'd need to compare.

CustardOmlet · 23/12/2013 11:47

Haha Baubles we never grow up do we!

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 23/12/2013 11:51

Not at all! Me and DP just looked at each other sneakily... next minute we're sat surrounded by wrapping paper and feeling rather guilty Grin Blush

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 23/12/2013 11:53

I was quite peed off that my Dad and his partner opened their gifts the day they received them in the post! You are supposed to wait for Christmas day. That's the rule!!!

NoComet · 23/12/2013 11:55

DDs always do with newish school friends, avoids all kinds of embarrassment.

With ILs it surely depends how well you know them, what info on budget etc. you or DH already have.

If you honestly haven't a clue, peek.

I stayed at my in-laws most university holidays and went on holiday with them several times, so presents were easy.

Actually easier than my DM.

CaptainSweatPants · 23/12/2013 11:56

I'd peek!!

Tinkertaylor1 · 23/12/2013 11:59

Oh open it!

I opened mine because mil went to great pains for me not to open a bootle of wine and dont open the chocolates till after your dinner.

I got pissed on it the other night and knocked myself sick with chocolates. Xmas Grin

I'm sick of her trying to control every aspect of my life!
