I ordered a dietary specific hamper with christmas treats for my MIL in Nov, to be delivered on 17 Dec as she's going to DH's DB for christmas (he's picking her up Sunday for a week), we told her it would be delivered at the beginning of this week, and she's just phoned now to say it hasn't come?? Have phoned to try and trace it, and waiting for a call back, but what does she really think I can do now??

Some people are quite laid back, maybe she's not expecting you to do anything? It sounds as if she's been waiting for it to turn up eventually (as it well might)

Costacoffeeplease · 20/12/2013 19:34

Yes she is expecting us to do something, quite what I don't know - and if it does still turn up next monday or tuesday, she won't be there! I also don't want to pay for it if it's lost - but FFS, 7pm on a Friday evening, a few days before Christmas - and we're not even in the same country.........

Have you asked her why she didn't mention it sooner? YANBU, is there an online tracking code?

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 20/12/2013 19:44

I hate Christmas presents where I have to do something. . I would ignore and avoid too.

annielouisa · 20/12/2013 19:46

Thats a bit like me really I always thinks things will arrive and don't like to complain. The people you need to be cross with is the service that let you down.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/12/2013 19:58

There is a tracking code but it just says it can't be tracked at the moment Hmm - at least if she'd let me know Tues or Weds we'd have had a chance, but not now. I'm annoyed with them, but also for not being told until Friday night!! DH will be getting the job of sorting christmas for her next year. I didn't speak to her, DH answered the phone

Did you tell her "it will be delivered on the 17th" or did you just say "start of the week before Christmas"? Because if the latter, I would hear "this week, towards the beginning" and I wouldn't think about it as not delivered until today, although granted I'd probably contact you earlier to say it's not arrived yet and check it was arriving this week.

Can you get the company you ordered it from to redispatch to BIL's house? If it's not turned up and you paid for named day delivery then you should get it redelivered for free. Also get her to check it's not sat with neighbours (we had one here and it turns out the neighbour it was for didn't get a card through the door).

I'm surprised you didn't contact her on 17th if you had named day delivery though to check it had arrived...

cheapskatemum · 20/12/2013 20:05

Very annoying, I had that one year when I ordered 5 single duvets because we had guests staying over the Christmas holidays. The online company finally admitted, days before Christmas, that they didn't have them in stock. Of course, if the website had stated that, they wouldn't have got my money, would they?

Costacoffeeplease · 20/12/2013 20:12

Again, I didn't tell her, DH did, although I had told him it was a named delivery for 17th. They were offering free delivery so that part hasn't cost us - it's unlikely she was out as she's quite elderly and not all that mobile. I had an email on Monday saying it had been despatched for delivery Tuesday so all appeared to be on track, and it's a big well-known company. Will see what they say when they phone back
