Hi.
I am regular lurker on MN but this is my first posting so pls bear with me.
My dear friend asked me for help so I was wondering if you can help.
She wants to complain about dr and hospital - where she can do that? I told her to go to CAB but is there any other body within the hospital? I want to help her but I don't know how.
Thank you for any advice....

I think this explains the process fairly clearly: NHS Hospital Complaints - the main thing is to look up the PALS for that hospital.

Tell her to contact the patient liason service at the hospital.

Thank you for your help. Her dd fell and injured elbow. She took her to hospital, they did x- ray and gave her neurofren. Dd was In the pain still. She took her to GP and GP told her if hospital said its ok than its ok. Yesterday she had follow up check and the same dr whom she saw in hospital two weeks ago told her that he is sorry but he didn't see earlier that she actually broke her elbow:(
She is now wearing plaster. It's incredible. She misses two weeks of school because she was in so much pain ... Thank you for any advice you gave me. Thank you...

Same happened to my sister as a child, mam had a phone call 2 weeks later to say she'd broken her collar bone. This was a week after participating in sports day, javelin throwing the lot!!!!

ddubsgirl · 20/12/2013 00:11

all good now thanks I knew it wasnt a sprain done that so many times with my ankles and it felt different yes PALS is to do with the hospital its to help when things go wrong or your unhappy with treatment etc x

MrsAMerrick · 20/12/2013 00:13

PALS is the Patient Advice and Liaison Service, they have offices in every hospital afaik. I used to work in a large hospital and the PALS service there was brilliant, the workers took forward the patients concerns, liaised with the medical staff and patients/families until things got resolved and were a great source of information. I think every hospital also has its own complaints process, whereas PALS is more of a mediation service?

ddubsgirl · 20/12/2013 00:14

night before the call I had done the trick or treat walk with my kids went to bed when I got in as it was hurting ithought someine was winding me up when I got the call and called the hospital back to confirm Grin

Thank you so much. I will see her in the morning and I will let her know. Poor her little dd. :(
Can't imagine the pain, I am scared of any pain and to think her dd was for two weeks in such a pain it's just madness. From my understanding , dr was very brief and he almost didn't want to speak.
Thank you for such amazing help.
