To think DFS are crap

We bought a new sofa off them weeks ago - they said they'd be in touch at least the week before delivery.
They've sent DP a text at 2 pm saying they will be delivering 'between 8 am and 2 pm tomorrow'.
I've rang up and said we both work full time and can't take a day off last minute for a sofa delivery - we were planning on one of us booking a day of annual leave when we were given the delivery date. They've told us that if they can't deliver it tomorrow, we won't get it till the end of January as they'll have to send it back to the warehouse.
We've paid a decent amount of money for this sofa under the promise of 'guaranteed Christmas delivery' so rang back to complain. They've now said they will deliver it at 7.30 am tomorrow so neither of us will have to take any time off work.
AIBU to be pissed off that they've left it till the afternoon before to let us know?

YABU, it's coming up to xmas they are busy so they are getting all their deliveries out. They have said they'd redeliver it for you but after christmas, so you do indeed have time to arrange to book the day off. If you want it before xmas then you have to accommodate the delivery.
In the event they have accommodated you by delivering early in the day. I don't see the problem.

CaptainSweatPants · 16/12/2013 16:36

Yabu
You can book leave for the end of January or make yourselves available tomorrow

SuburbanRhonda · 16/12/2013 16:38

YABU if you've only just realised that DFS are crap Xmas Grin

FoxMulder · 16/12/2013 16:40

We had a bathroom company call us last week saying 'we'll be there in 20 minutes'. That was the first we'd heard of it!

LaurieFairyCake · 16/12/2013 16:41

It's a bit short notice.

Only 9 days til Christmas though, were you calling them to remind them of the promised before Christmas delivery?

Slh122 · 16/12/2013 16:42

Have rang up several times in the past few weeks to be told 'we'll let you know the week before'. We paid for guaranteed Christmas delivery!

yabu they've now offered to deliver yours first tomorrow, what's the problem ? Maybe they hadn't finalised their delivery route until today . Worth accepting otherwise if they go under before end January you might not see your sofa or your money .

yourusername123456789 · 16/12/2013 16:43

It's unfortunate, but they sound like they're busy, there was a mix up so you weren't contacted and they've tried to accomodate you by offering an earlier delivery time so you don't have to take leave at all. What's the problem?

btw I have to stick up for DFS, we were determined not to shop with them, but couldn't find anything decent anywhere, got a sofa from them, and 2 years later it's still lovely and comfy and we've had no problems, so I would shop with them again.

There is no problem now I just have ragey pregnancy hormones and wanted to vent.

Well it sounds like they've been helpful in sorting out the problem sounds like good customer service to me.

cosysocks · 16/12/2013 16:49

I had same with scs. It's crazy they can't tell you when it's going to be delivered until a few days before. I had a full scale argument with the store manager as I was working full time and like you needed to book annual leave and couldn't do that with just a few days notice. I I hadn't accepted the delivery date and rescheduled they were going to charge me another delivery fee.
In the end I had to get my mum to come over and wait for it.
I just don't get how people manage to get things delivered.

OTheHugeManatee · 16/12/2013 16:50

YABU for buying a minging sofa from minging DFS in the first place Grin

yourusername123456789 · 16/12/2013 16:50

well now if you want to blame ragey pregnancy hormones, I expect there to be far more swears and much more unreasonableness and I certainly don't expect you to accept there is no problem!

yourusername123456789 · 16/12/2013 16:51

OThehugemanatee, your sofa is mingy

Slh122 · 16/12/2013 17:00

I rang DP up shouting demanding to know why DFS thought it was acceptable to leave it this late and refused to listen to him when he said 'at least they are delivering it tomorrow' yourusername Grin
