to think Royal Mail should introduce a postie tracker

I think the postman is late today. Or I got no post.

I should really get in the shower but I'm having a lazy morning and I am expecting a few deliveries that probably would not get through the letter box.

It would be great to have a postie tracker app. Just type in your postcode and it would tell you if letters or parcels have been delivered to your street yet.

Of course - it could be misused by Royal Mail to monitor the speed of a the delivery. And if they've stopped to fix car tyres Grin

But from a customer perspective - it would be good.

My post arrives at all different times. Often arrives between two and three pm which is a little bit annoying.

i thought you might be questioning the parentage of some local children? think with dna testing this might not be necessary!!

Newcurtainsplease · 13/12/2013 11:27

Great idea. One of the delivery companies have a tracker like this and it is fantastic.

OrlandoWoolf · 13/12/2013 11:28

They could have a microchip in their bag. Linked to GPS and monitored.
I think the unions might complain.

Glad I'm not the only one who lazes around when they should have a shower.

The fun of working at home.

chuckles at the thought of the management meeting at which this is mentions (channels twenty twelve). giggles at the strike that would follow.

DPD did this with my recent parcel. as i am stuck at home i thoroughly enjoyed following Farak on his morning deliveries. To be fair, it did open my eyes to how many delivers they do- i was no 68 and he arrived around 2.30. An dear Farak said that they find more customers are either at home, or contact them to say they are not going to be so he doesnt spend all day knocking on doors of empty houses.

Mandy2003 · 13/12/2013 11:52

I'm lazing not showering too for exactly the same reason!

BackOnlyBriefly · 13/12/2013 11:58

Agree with tracker idea. However the way to get your post right now is to turn the shower on and pretend to get in it.

All delivery people have a secret device that tells this THIS is the worst possible time to knock.

I got an email the other day telling me i was number 32 on the courier's route and he was currently delivering number 1. It was about 10am and it stated my delivery was due to be delivered at 11.30am (it was too).

OrlandoWoolf · 13/12/2013 12:06

Had the shower. No post.
Got a lot of deliveries coming.

This would be a great idea - our post arrives anywhere between 1 and 5pm. I've just been to the shops and the local businesses are just getting their post now...

MinesAPintOfTea · 13/12/2013 12:12

Unless they also showed the route your postie was taking (commercially confidential information) it would be meaningless. Plus its a bit 1984...

I look up and down the road: can see in both directions and he always gets to my bit of the road last so I've got 5-10 minutes if he's not in sight.

Posties are always later at this time of year because they've got more stuff to deliver anyway.

SofaKing · 13/12/2013 12:16

Yes. I popped out why the dog and missed a delivery, it was an Amazon parcel which it had said was due to be delivered tomorrow so I didn't wait in today.

Now I have to wait in the post office queue, last time took two trips and queuing for 45 then 30 minutes before they found it, dread to think how long I'll be waiting this close to Christmas!

OrlandoWoolf · 13/12/2013 12:19

Minesapintoftea

I think 1984 has already arrived - Google tracking ads, CCTV, Clubcards etc

Ugh so fed up with our post. EVERYTHING goes missing, bank cards, pins, ebay stuff, magazines, birthday cards with money in. Not saying our postie is to blame but we have had three cases with RM about this and still things are not turning up. Also we don't get our post till 1-ish everyday.

Postie tracker ap would be great haha!

OrlandoWoolf · 13/12/2013 13:03

It's arrived. 2 hours later than usual but it's here.

I love DPD's system - they normally turn up right in the middle of their hour slot. We had a delivery from them yesterday, luckily it was before I had to go out in the afternoon but if it had been an afternoon slot DP would have been able to pop home from work to be here knowing when they'd be here.

Has anyone else had an Amazon delivery actually delivered by Amazon? We had our first one yesterday which I wasn't here for. They not only picked a sensible neighbour to leave it with (the restaurant next door that is open all day) and left a card, but they also sent an email straight away saying where they'd left it.

BitchyFestiveFace · 13/12/2013 13:22

I'm still waiting in for my post. Used to be around 11am. This week it's been later and later. Weds I left at 1pm for DD's Christmas concert and came back to the "sorry we missed you" cards Xmas Angry

Am trying to be understanding of the Christmas workload etc for them but it means I don't have time now to go anywhere or do anything between school runs. I wanted to go into town today as need various bits and pieces - if they'd come by 11 I'd have had time, but no, still here waiting and now it's too late.

First world problems. I know.
