door to door catalogue collection?

Please help me figure out if AIBU

Answered the door today to a man asking for me to return the catalogue he posted through my door. I couldn't remember receiving a catalogue but he was really insistent so I started rifling through some junk mail we had by the door. still couldn't find it. I admit I was pretty curt with him - my toddler was trying to use the chance to run out of the house so I really didn't have time for this catalogue chat.

I asked him to leave and he replied that I was disgusting for having so much junk mail. he kept repeating I was disgusting for not dealing with my mail properly. I kept saying I was finding him rude and intrusive and to please leave my house. I had to shut the door on him in the end.

It's left me feeling really shaken up and tearful. WIBU?

what a wanker (him not you) he had no right to be in your house

I throw all those catalogues away - they are unsolicited mail and he has no right to demand it back x

LaurieFairyCake · 11/12/2013 19:33

You were very unreasonable

What the smeg are you doing crying when you could have told him to fuck off!

He was horribly rude to you

Grow some ovaries Wink

If he's so against junk mail then why the fuck is he delivering it?

Confused

What a strange man!!

Grin

I've just said on another thread that I think soon all of this doorstep selling/begging crap will soon be illegal (or at least heavily moderated). Some people have a person on their doorstep 3 or 4 times a week demanding money.

HECTheHeraldAngelsSing · 11/12/2013 19:34

No. he was being an arse. Don't let him upset you.

I realise they are just trying to make a living, but unsolicited mail that comes through your letterbox is exactly that - unsolicited. They get arsy I think because they have to pay for them - but that is the risk you take when you shove something through strangers' doors that they didn't ask for and don't want!

When I get one, I sling it straight back outside. It disappears within a few days so I assume they collect it.

WTFlike · 11/12/2013 19:37

The only way this will stop is if we all bin them and tell them that when they come back. Then shut the door.

nosoupforyou · 11/12/2013 19:59

Thank you all for reassuring replies. I've never heard of this re -collection of catalogues business. I hate cold -callers. these encounters never end well for me.

Make a complaint to the trade body the company is associated with - not that the trade body will do anything about it, but if they can always say "we don't have any complaints" then there's less likely to be any regulation that might actually stop this.

Spaulding · 11/12/2013 21:09

What an idiot. Make a complaint with the company.

We have the opposite problem. I always keep onto the catalogues as I know they pay for them out of their own pocket, but they never come back for the bloody things! Good thing I've never actually wanted to place an order!

cantbelievemyeyes · 11/12/2013 21:17

Not exactly what the poster is talking about, but I'm so bloody sick of seeing this shite advertised all over the Directgov job website, and all sorts of other recruitment websites, as a job. It's not a job, it's self employed stuffing shite through people's doors. So OP, you might start seeing more of this as these companies are absolutely hammering the advertising and more people take them up on their 'assurances' that you can earn a proper wage. Just today in my area there are a couple of dozen adverts with titles including 'Work from Home Business Development', 'Immediate Start- Sales/ Retail', 'Home Shopping Representative- Business Development', 'Customer Service Agents' etc.

nosoupforyou · 11/12/2013 22:14

I wish I could complain but as i never found the catalogue I have absolutely no idea who he worked for or what he was selling. maybe the neighbours will know...

Betterware are bad for this. I had their rep demanding I should phone him and let him kow when he could collect his catalogue. I leave them outside now with FUCK OFF written on the front
