To hope I don't get this midwife

That was just my gut reaction when I saw the article. Maybe I'm jealous and I don't want some sort of miss world arriving when at my least dignified, or maybe I just want to be supported by someone who is not so shallow?

Smoorikins · 11/12/2013 12:15

Oh the hypocrisy.

Don't you think that your judgement of her is shallow, being, as it is, based on her looks. People can be beautiful and clever and deep.

kinkyfuckery · 11/12/2013 12:18

Why do you assume she is shallow?

ThedementedPenguin · 11/12/2013 12:19

Can you put up a proper link?

HenriettaPie · 11/12/2013 12:20

Agree with smoorikins- you are the one coming across as shallow

MammaTJ · 11/12/2013 12:20

I think by joining the website she has, she has put herself up for people to make shallow judgements based on her looks.

Mumee793 · 11/12/2013 12:22

Well that's why I'm asking if I'm being unreasonable having this gut feeling. I don't think I would have given it a thought if a beautiful midwife turned up, it's the putting yourself up as one of the most beautiful people that I think is shallow?

Sorry OP but you are batty. Pretty people can deliver babies you know. I can't imagine she'd care what you look like.

ViviPru · 11/12/2013 12:23

She's pretty. There's nothing in the article to suggest she's not lovely and competent.

Although....
"BeautifulPeople.com has been described as an “elite online club” where existing members vote whether to accept aspiring members based on pictures."

So does this mean 'aspiring members' put themselves forward? Imagine putting yourself forward as an aspiring beautiful person Confused This would make me question the personality of an individual who would do this...

Flisspaps · 11/12/2013 12:24

YABU

hellowonderful · 11/12/2013 12:26

She's good looking. So? She's probably also excellent at her joband would care for you well. Would you prefer an ugly woman who was not so good at what she does or couldn't give a toss?

Mumee793 · 11/12/2013 12:27

Vivi- of course I don't think pretty people are incompetent, I'm talking about the attitude of the person.

MrsCakesPremonition · 11/12/2013 12:31

By the time she has her uniform on and her hair pulled back in a ponytail, she will look like the rest of the MWs on shift. And you will be pleased to see her.

You are confusing her personal life (using an internet dating site) with a professional abilities.

MaidOfStars · 11/12/2013 12:39

maybe I just want to be supported by someone who is not so shallow?
Yes, it would be dreadful to be kept waiting while she retouched her lippy and ensured the fit doctors were around to see her perform...

Even if she is the most shallow creature around, why would that impinge on her ability to be a good midwife?

poorbuthappy · 11/12/2013 12:44

How does a person decide they are gorgeous enough to apply to the website?
I find modestly a decent quality. That's a personality comment, by the way, rather than a comment about her ability as a midwife.

DoctorRobert · 11/12/2013 12:51

Do you know what OP, I don't think YABU.

I wouldn't care what my MW looked like, beautiful or otherwise - but I can't imagine that I would "click" with somebody who is so far up their own arse that they nominate themselves as one of the most beautiful people in the world, and given the choice I would prefer somebody a little more down to earth to be my MW.

Leviticus · 11/12/2013 12:51

Yabu! She's a pretty young professional woman taking an opportunity to have some fun and hopefully find love. It doesn't impact her ability to do her job one bit. Good for her.

Ridiculous and highly judgey to label her shallow.

HarderToKidnap · 11/12/2013 12:54

She's lovely looking. I work with two gorgeous midwives, one is also a popstar and drop dead gorge, and the other just the most stunning person I've ever laid eyes on. I do often think I wouldn't fancy being delivered by them if I didn't know them!

Procrastinating · 11/12/2013 12:54

YANBU.
Anyone who put themselves up for that website would be worth avoiding.

DoctorRobert · 11/12/2013 12:57

Oh come on, so somebody who joins a "Beautiful People" dating agency and is therefore only interested in dating a "beautiful person" ISN'T shallow? Ok then Grin

MrsCakesPremonition · 11/12/2013 12:59

Would it be better if she had joined uniformdating.vom?

MaidOfStars · 11/12/2013 13:00

Apparently, Beautiful People vet your application to decide if you are beautiful enough.

Still no answer about being shallow stops you being a good midwife?

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/12/2013 13:01

I don't think her looks have anything to do with her ability to work as a midwife, I am surprised she manages to look so good on her days off even, I certainly didn't after a week of night shifts or lates onto early's.

However I find the concept of the dating site a little bi odd in that you nominate yourself and they vote you in. surely you must have to have a very high opinion of yourself to even consider putting yourself in that position. Also how are these classified as the most beautiful people in the world, if you nominate yourself and are single, surely there are hundreds if not thousands of beautiful people out there who either wouldn't join the site or are in a relationship?

AngelaDaviesHair · 11/12/2013 13:33

She looks pleasant enough. She can't be that shallow, or she'd have chosen something a lot less down to earth than midwifery for a career. Bet you that on the ward/in clinic with little make up and hair tied back, you wouldn't even recognise her.

I had one real horror midwife (only at one clinic visit, thank goodness). If shallow is the worst you can say about any of yours, hurrah!

revivingshower · 11/12/2013 13:56

My midwife was very pretty but I didn't bother about that. To me it really is all down to their manner. I wanted someone very kind and understanding but who seemed to know what they were doing.
