to be annoyed at present idea being free

Ok, I know IABU, but still...

Buying a small present for a friends DS, and I had a brilliant idea lined up. He loves football, so I thought that getting FIFA 2014 for his new tablet (that he doesn't yet know about) would be perfect. Friend doesn't "do" computers, so it definitely wouldn't already have been purchased.

Only.... it's free. I mean, they'll fleece you in-game for extras, but I can't really give a gift certificate for value £0, saying "go and download this game; it's free" as a present, can I...? Last year's game was about £5, which would have been just right.

Now I'm going to have to think up another idea. And I hate football...

Send him a card with "this voucher enables you to ask me for up to ten pounds of online extras for this game"?

BionicEmu · 10/12/2013 16:41

Is there any way you can give a gift voucher or something for a certain value of in-game extras?

Sorry, I'm useless with technology so don't know if that's possible or not!

Ginocchio · 10/12/2013 16:45

bionic & dwerf I'd be reluctant to - friend is not very IT literate, and DS is only 7, so I don't want to be responsible for them running up £00's of costs because neither realised they were being charged for extras... I'd rather give a single item.

Get him something else as well? A fooball?

Those freebie games are very annoying. They come up with banners that you can accidently click on (some of which aren't appropriate for a 7yr old) and your game is constantly being interrupted. Plus the FIFA game is quite complicated, my 9 year old gets cross with it because there are so many moves that you have to figure out.

I'd get something else.

what type of tablet it is as you can buy itunes vouchers for the ipad or you can buy google play vouchers if its a android tablet and uses google play

AnUnearthlyChild · 10/12/2013 18:15

Yes, chips has it. Get them a voucher. You can't run up bills on that. When its gone its gone.

It's how I load up my ipad. I deliberatley didntlink a credit card with my iTunes in case small people managed to figure out in app purchase.

You could put a note in saying ou will help them use it to buy something with it.
