to want the BBC not to axe Ripper Street?

I think it's good. Apparently they are not making a new series because it wasn't as popular as ITV's I"m a Celebrity which was showing on the opposite channel.

Someone (not me!) has started a petition to get the BBC to change it's mind - it needs 1500 more signatures to get to the magic 10,000 mark.

If you're interested in signing, the petition is here

Oh FGS! One of the very few things on TV I will watch. If its not as popular as I'm a Celebrity, why not put it on at different time then?

hopskipandthump · 10/12/2013 11:39

That's what I think too Mandy, and why I signed the petition. It would be nice if it changed the BBC's mind.

Have signed the petition and have been tweeting the BBC all week! I LOVE Ripper Street, thought last night's episode was a cracker.

gamerchick · 10/12/2013 12:31

You're wasting your time. The petition for a new series of survivors is still going Grin

squoosh · 10/12/2013 12:36

Well maybe there's a slim hope seeing as there's still an episode of Ripper to go. I'm sure the BBC hadn't planned to announce its cancellation till after the series had finished so maybe, just maybe, people power will work.

Callani · 10/12/2013 12:41

I didn't really like Ripper Street tbh but it's better than a lot of the stuff that the BBC churns out.

I think the main problem is that it's £££ to make, so it has to go in the prime spot and unfortunately it wasn't getting enough ratings to make it worthwhile - might have been something to do with people being put off by the multiple dead prostitutes / snuff film episodes...

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 10/12/2013 12:42

It's one of three or four things I watch - boo!

squoosh · 10/12/2013 12:49

I think the BBC's problem is the cost of the programme that's why they deliberately ensured its failure by sticking it on Monday evenings up against I'm a Celeb instead of Sunday which is the real prime spot.

Callani · 10/12/2013 12:50

On the plus side, Sherlock returns on New Year's Day! (for all of three episodes but still...)

squoosh · 10/12/2013 12:59

See, I don't get the fuss with Sherlock at all. I like Cumberbatch but that show leaves me completely cold.

Juliaparker25 · 10/12/2013 13:38

Signed ............

Mandy2003 · 10/12/2013 15:08

Up to 10,246 - says it needs another 4,753. Are they moving the goalposts? I agree, why was it never on Sundays?

roguepixie · 10/12/2013 15:14

FFS, I love Ripper Street...one of the few programmes worth watching. Off to sign the petition.

Normalisavariantofcrazy · 10/12/2013 15:19

I've been bugging the Beeb since the news came out by every method possible.

I can't see them reversing the decision sadly, they've put too much money into the voice and other such shit

Mandy2003 · 10/12/2013 18:41

Oh no, they're not doing another series of The Voice are they Sad

So, what will be on in the future that I might like on terrestrial TV? Dr Who if the writers leave the drugs alone if its more understandable this time. Sherlock - a bit meh but ok. Any more Call the Midwife after the Christmas Special?

Thought I'd check and see if Whitechapel was coming back - apparently: On 16 November 2013, Rupert Penry Jones confirmed that ITV had decided not to recommission the show and cancelled it. Rupert Penry Jones via Twitter Angry

Until they make Sky pay per view for what you actually watch I will not be getting it. I would have absolutely no problem with say £5 per month and 50p per programme. Why should I have to buy packages with channels I never watch just to see 3 or 4 programmes per month?

MitMopse · 10/12/2013 19:49

Signed! Like this show, certainly better than reality tv dross.

Rumours on Twitter that all may not be lost!

squoosh · 11/12/2013 09:29

Twittwer says 'Series 3 & 4 GOING AHEAD! LOVEFilM are co-financing in NEW DEAL with BBC;.

hopskipandthump · 11/12/2013 09:44

Woohoo! More signatures on the petition couldn't hurt though, so anyone else who wants to sign please do!
