.... To hate my neighbours Christmas lights.

From my lounge I can see:

Icicle flashing lights all round the eaves of the house.
Flashing light panels in all downstairs windows.
Tall Christmas tree in garden with flashing blue (ambulance coloured) and white lights.
4 small trees - 2 in blue, 2 in white (thankfully not flashing)
Flashing "Merry Christmas" signs x2 on the fence.
4 light up (and yes, flashing) Polar Bears on the lawn.

It's too much!!

We don't really have many decorations up till next weekend. We have candles (lots of) and my decor style does tend to lean towards twigs and pebbly shit!

It's going to give me a migraine!

I bet i'm not the only one clicked on this thinking oooh shit i hope i'm not the neighbour Grin

(i'm not, we only have the icicle lights and a few red ones round the door)

Doitnicelyplease · 09/12/2013 19:54

Buy some curtains, we have a whole street full of lights but I can't see them once I draw my curtains.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 09/12/2013 19:55

It sounds fab Xmas Grin
Wear sunglasses Xmas Wink

I think it's all well and good to put up loads of tacky Christmas lights-except the people that do it don't have to look at it do they. Offending the whole neighbourhood, but never look at it yourself.

Quote - it seems like your photo is the sanitised version....!

annoyed neighbour

Yanbu. I hate the blue lights.

Weegiemum · 09/12/2013 20:16

I feel like I'm a right Scrooge.

I keep my curtains open right now as we have about 20 candles lit on the sill and I love candles at Christmas.

If they'd put them off overnight it would be better, but no, it's flash flas all night! Driving the cat insane!!

My ndn have a life size polar bear putting a sleigh in there front garden and so many lights it puts Blackpool tower to shame. But my 15 month old ds lovingly stares out the window waiting for them to be turned on so all is forgiven :)

ShylaMcClaus · 09/12/2013 20:22

Neighbours opposite have something like this. I keep thinking the emergency services are outside when I walk down the hallway with all the blue flashing lights. This is a constant disappointment because I love a good curtain twitch.

I am miserable old Scrooge and refuse to share my Christmas decorations with others. Even our wreath is on the inside of the door lest it attract Carol Singers Xmas Grin

Weegiemum · 09/12/2013 20:22

It's also the flashing!! I've never owned a flashing light in my life (though dh has a fetching magnetic green one for the car in GP emergency-land that he's never used).

If they just stayed still and twinkled I'd not mind so much!

Many xmas lights are ok lovely and pretty; but the 'flashing' lights are not - not for me anyway as I have photosensitive epilepsy that is not fully controlled.

So YANBU not to like actual FLASHING lights, YABU to not like xmas lights in general.

WinterWinds · 09/12/2013 20:32

YANBU.

I have to switch my own lights off overnight as I can still see the glow behind the blind, (warm white icicle lights that don't flash!!)

They seem to be a foot longer than standard so hang right in front of the window although didn't realise this until i'd put them up!!!

I need the bedroom in complete darkness to sleep even the standby light on the TV annoys me!!!!!!

ShoeSmacking · 09/12/2013 20:33

Our neighbours have hilariously ott lights! I love it. I'm more the type to go with the waterfall of lights on my house/ drive but I love a little craziness at Christmas. Can't wait to have more hardcore lights myself when dh and i can afford to buy them!

Just comfort yourself with the thought of their electricity bill.
