To think that Human Sandwich Boards are a bit sad?

On the way home today I saw a rather dejected looking girl wearing a huge pizza box, then for the next half a mile I counted another 5 people all doing the same.

Just made me feel a bit sad for them. Sad

It's a job.

woollytights · 09/12/2013 11:32

We had some near us once, advertising a new butchers wearing pig and cow costumes. They were waving at all the passers by, interacting with each other and dancing. It made me think this type of advertising would be better for everyone if the people doing it were a bit more in disguise animated.

ZingSweetPea · 09/12/2013 11:33

If they get paid it's still better than nothing, but I see what you mean.

the worst one still has to be John McClane in the middle of Harlem wearing "I hate n*ggers".
no other RL sandwich board person will ever measure up to that cringe factor! Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 09/12/2013 11:37

I don't like it either - especially the dancing Dominos Santa.

Even though I know it's just a job it looks demeaning to me.

Eastwickwitch · 09/12/2013 11:40

I know exactly what you mean.
On the A303 there's a chap with a pub advertising board who stands by the really busy road. It always makes me feel sad.

Morloth · 09/12/2013 11:44

We used to roll a die to see whose turn it was back in my pub job days.

It sucked.

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2013 11:46

Yes, it is a job, But 6 of the poor souls?

They were doing a bit of dancing, probably to keep warm. it looked like some kind of horrible punishment.

It looks awful and humiliating. And demeaning. YANBU.

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2013 11:58

It didn't make me want to buy a pizza even for £6.99. Sad

We get those people round here occasionally. The bastards sent them out on a match day. Saw loads of fans jostling one poor lad and taking pics or filming him.

Quoteunquote · 09/12/2013 12:14

A couple of years ago,one on an industrial site in a city near here collapsed, and later died,

Personally I make a note of any company using people in this way and never give them a penny of my money.

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2013 12:24

Quote that's awful. Do they employ sandwich board people just to do that or do you think the staff all have to have a go?

No, it was a bit of a horrid one really, older man, who was on minimum wage, in one of those positions where he had to take the job as he would lose his benifits if he didn't,

It the standing on one spot in the bitter cold, really tough job.

susiedaisy · 09/12/2013 13:00

Yanbu I think it's demeaning and degrading and I suspect most of the employees aren't doing it by choice, it's also distracting when you are driving. An American idea that just seems pointless and silly IMO

JingleMyBells · 09/12/2013 13:06

The ones with arrows pointing to shops always look pretty pathetic Sad

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2013 13:28

Sad I really don't like them.
