To ask for your advice - slow cooker disaster!

Hi folks I know AIBU posting here but need a quick response.

I was super organised this morning and got the slow cooker sorted before 10am - Spanish chicken (chicken pieces and tomato sauce with new potatoes). It needed 8-9 hrs on low. Just come home to find that I must have switched if off without thinking before I left by accident at 11.30- midday ish. So it hasn't been cooking for the last 3 hours!

How can I remedy it - put it on high or just give up & whack it into a saucepan and cook. I am a slow cooker novice (and general disaster in the kitchen) - would it work if I just do it in the saucepan instead?

I would whack it up high then check it 30 minutes before you want to eat. If it is not done finish it off in a pan. Chicken doesn't really need to be cooked for as long but the potatoes might not be cooked through. Alternatively pop it in a casserole dish and do it in the oven.

Put it on high. That normally halves the cooking time.
I often cook on high with mine, and always have good results.

Not sure I'd risk it. Has the temperature dropped too much? Half cooking chicken, letting it cool and then finishing in a hurry may be a health hazard.

Right takeaway it is.

I hadn't thought of the health risk and I'm not taking any chances - I did actually give us food poisoning 2 weeks ago following a jerk chicken (I truly am a culinary disaster!). The memory is to recent to risk it now you have mentioned it.

What a bloody waste!!

Just put it in the oven to finish it off.. it wont be risky and its a complete waste to bin it!
