at the bus driver who went straight across the zebra crossing despite me stood waiting to cross with pushchair and toddler!! There is a bus stop just after crossing and he stopped there.

im not one for confrontation but I crossed over and went up to him and explained if people were waiting at a zebra crossing he should stop!!

he said he didn't have to unless we were on zebra crossing; by which time it might have been too late.

he started spouting highway code at me saying it was drivers discretion (I dont know if this is true). I said regardless if people and especially those with small children are trying to cross he was unreasonable!!!

grrrrrr Grin

Strictly speaking he was right, he doesn't have to stop unless your foot (hard when you are pushing a pushchair) is actually on the crossing. Most people do stop though. Having said that, a bus takes a lot of stopping, and if I saw a bus coming I would actually take a step back to allow the bus to pass without having to brake.

grrr I thought he might be. I guess I was more annoyed as we are showing DS1 to stop at roads, wait at zebra crossings for cars to stop and then he doesnt!! Grin

What is the actual point of a zebra crossing then? Because even if there wasn't one, you clearly should still stop if someone is in the road? You can't just run them over!

OP, that's exactly why you teach your DCs to wait until the car stops. Because they don't always stop and whether they should or not, if they don't, it's always the pedestrian that is going to suffer most.

the driver even said that if I had been on the crossing he would of stopped! well I would bloody well hope so!!!! but im not going to risk it.

so when is it actually safe to cross on a zebra crossing apart from when theres no tragicAngry
