At home today as DS is rather poorly and two women knocked on the door. I pointed to the 'no cold callers' sign and they said that they weren't cold callers asks the police etc as they definitely weren't cold callers. My reply was 'I'll have to get another sign put up then'

AIBU to think yes they were bloody cold callers?? If not what the hell are the they classed at so I can put a sign saying 'no whatever they are classed as' on the door.

I'd class them as cold callers, and a bloody nuisance too :(

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 04/12/2013 11:19

I can always spot them when they are doing the arounds, getting me to convert is not gonna happen ever!!!

Justforlaughs · 04/12/2013 11:21

At this time of year they are SO "cold callers" Wink
I'd be tempted to add a line on your sign "yes, JWs - this means you!"

justtoomessy · 04/12/2013 11:21

I clearly can't put "no JW' on the door though as I'd probably get taken to court so what can I write apart form 'we are atheist and won't be converted' as I doubt that would stop them!

OP posts:
HairyPorter · 04/12/2013 11:21

Yanbu! Definitely classed as cold callers imo

justtoomessy · 04/12/2013 11:23

Grin at just for laughs wish I'd been quicker and said that but 3 nights of no sleep and my brain is fecked!

Contact your local Kingdom Hall.
Ask to be put on their Do Not Call list.
Job done.

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 04/12/2013 11:25

'we are atheist and won't be converted' as I doubt that would stop them!

No, that'll just make you a challenge!!! Grin

No way would i convert to JW, have you seen the 141 rules they have, thats so not for me.

ooerrmissus · 04/12/2013 11:25

Just change the sign to 'visitors: by prior appointment'.

Justforlaughs · 04/12/2013 11:25

You coul put "no religious callers please"

Ginocchio · 04/12/2013 11:30

Unless they'd either already spoken to you & arranged an appointment, or they were there to discuss something that was specifically related to you (and not in the we're here specifically to save you sense), then of course they were cold callers...

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 04/12/2013 11:30

Search online for no cold caller signs. Mine says..

I have a sign which the police were handing out locally.

It says "No Cold Callers. No Appoiltment? Don't bother knocking."

I still get people who ignore it and then try to convince me it doesn't mean them as they are not selling anything.

Some company called The Mark Group are the worst, as they ignore the sign and try to lie and say the law has changed and I must allow them access to my loft by law. Yeah, I don't think so.

WhenSarahAndStuckUpTheChimney · 04/12/2013 11:36

It doesn't say no appolitment.

The iPad is toying with me for amusement today.

Ginocchio · 04/12/2013 11:36

SoupDragon You say "job done" - but it seems unreasonable that, when there is already a sign saying "no cold callers", the onus is on OP to contact them.

Does everyone who has that sign also have to contact them? Is there a central list of all of the organisations who might turn up on the doorstep uninvited, but who (for whatever self-assessed reason) feel that they don't count as cold-callers, such that people can ensure that they've informed every organisation that they definitely mean them too...?

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 04/12/2013 11:39

I have to say, I'm not rude to cold callers exactly, but I do just firmly say 'no, I'm not interested, thank you' and then close the door on any protestations or arguments.

We have started getting quite a few cold callers (usually charities) that come round at 7, 8 and 9 pm. Surely this is far too late to be knocking on doors? If I was a vulnerable person, lived alone or was elderly, I would find this a bit frightening I think.

whereisthewitch · 04/12/2013 11:39

We were avoided by the JWs as my dad is an evangelical Pastor and often brought them in for debate sessions. ..they didn't like that.
Maybe put a sign on saying "satanists live here" it might deter them Grin tbh I just don't answer the door and turn the doorbell off.

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 04/12/2013 11:42

We live in a massive Jewish area so, unsurprisingly, don't get many religious cold callers. We did get an awesome Chanukah van convoy, blaring out tunes, with flashing menorahs on top of their cars the other day.

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 04/12/2013 11:43

An area where lots of Jewish families live, not an area where massive Jewish people live. Grammar fail. Blush

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 04/12/2013 11:46

The Jewish Massive, guy, innit.

That convoy sounds fucking awesome Hop

puntasticusername · 04/12/2013 11:48

There's an urban legend that JWs are not allowed to talk to people who used to be JWs but left the church. I don't know if it's true though.

at "massive Jewish people" Smile

SoupDragon · 04/12/2013 11:48

SoupDragon You say "job done" - but it seems unreasonable that, when there is already a sign saying "no cold callers", the onus is on OP to contact them.

Well, IMO you can either put up a poxy sign which people may or may not think applies to them and then whine when not everyone reads/obeys it or you can do something which should sort the problem.

Justforlaughs · 04/12/2013 11:50

whereisthewitch that's exactly like my DF, he still does it Grin

NoComet · 04/12/2013 11:52
Hmm You are not a friend or neighbour Your cat, dog, ball or frisbee hasn't escaped into my garden You haven't got an appointment You aren't delivering something addressed to this's address You aren't the meter reader keeping my direct debit about right. You not a police man looking for a lost MH patient (this has happened) You haven't come to tell me I have a chimney fire or a burst water pipe.

You must be a cold caller, fuck off!

spiderlight · 04/12/2013 11:58

'Give Blood' sticker in your window. Job done.

Actually we have a polite sign saying something along the lines of 'No cold callers or sales callers please. We do not wish to change our energy suppliers, our service providers or our religion' and it works the vast majority of the time. When DS was younger I was tempted to add 'If you wake the baby, you will be expected to stay and get him back to sleep' :o
