To think this is not on? (Children in car)

My sister was stood behind a woman at the supermarket checkout today and must have been listening to overheard a conversation between the lady in front of her and the cashier. The lady was talking about her DC and ended with 'and 7 month old twins outside in the car'. The cashier said 'with someone looking after them I hope?' And laughed and the woman said 'well, they've got each other and they're watching a DVD'. The cashier apparently looked a bit awkward and the woman then added 'well, it's just quicker to run in than get them out of the car'.

The thing is, she had a full trolley of shopping, not just a few bits, so she must have been in the supermarket a while.

Surely it's not ok to do this?

Given that she overheard the conversation rather than was part of it, possibly she misheard and the twins were 7yo rather than 7 mo.

It would be just as bad if they were 7yo, they could then just get out the car themselves and wander off. She is being a shockingly bad parent either way.

ginmakesitallok · 03/12/2013 18:28

I'd have assumed she was joking?

LynetteScavo · 03/12/2013 18:29

You think it's not on.

Your sister think's it's not on.

The cahsier thought it's not on.

Every poster on this thread will think it's not on.

It's not on.

The end.

SpockSmashesScissors · 03/12/2013 18:43

Sounds like she was joking.

IsThatTrue · 03/12/2013 18:48

7yo ok, 7mo not ok in my eyes

NeedlesCuties · 03/12/2013 20:16

Ok to run into the corner shop where you can see the car through the window, if you're getting one or two items. But sauntering round a supermarket with your tiny infants unsupervised?

Mad!

YANBU.

Justforlaughs · 03/12/2013 20:19

On the face of it, as we have been told the story, the woman was BU! Obviously! But seriously, this is a story told third hand, by someone who overheard a snippet of a conversation in a supermarket, who then passed it on. Sounds like Chinese Whispers to me tbh.

Haha at Lynette.

I agree btw.

7 years or 7 months it's crap.

Sometimes we CAN judge.

bananananacoconuts · 03/12/2013 20:23

This once happened in the supermarket i worked in except it was a 6month old with an 7 year old. Police were called as the baby was screaming and the 7 month old wound down the window shouting for the parents who were sauntering round the shop and didn't think there was a problem when questioned by the police! 7months, 7 years, not ok!
