DD has a bit of a temperature and a horrid cold. Would I be UR to take her to Westfield Xmas shopping? Nursery sent her home yesterday. She's 13 m...

I would not want to go shopping if I was unwell. Why not stay home and let her recuperate?

Piffpaffpoff · 03/12/2013 08:37

If it's just for an hour or two, I would. All day maybe not. But I'm presuming she'll be in a buggy and will most likely sleep most of the time? I probably would but would also be prepared to head for home if she got worse or was upset.

onedogandababy · 03/12/2013 08:40

I probably would if she wasn't too grumpy & I wasn't too tired if she'd been waking in the night.

If she has a temp, just make sure she's not too wrapped up if you're in a shopping centre/in heavily heated shops.

And take plenty for her to drink.

Agree with pp that she'll probably just snuggle in the buggy and get plenty of sleep.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 03/12/2013 08:42

YABU for even going to the hellhole that is Westfield!

Depends, is the short answer. If she's likely to sleep in her buggy, then I don't see why not for a short period. You know her best.

expatinscotland · 03/12/2013 08:43

YABU. poor mite.

pookypup · 03/12/2013 08:43

Depends how she feels about sitting in her buggy usually. My toddler was poorly last week with a temperature and bad cold so off nursery too. He rather enjoyed a few hours change of scene. Lots to watch from the pram and he was delighted with the Christmas lights. Think he was quite happy to sit still and relax for a bit.

I wouldn't have taken him out for too long though.

Icelollycraving · 03/12/2013 08:45

Yabu. Let her have a cosy day at home & shop online.

Sirzy · 03/12/2013 08:45

Seems very unfair on the poor child. Would you like to be dragged around shops with a temp and a horrid cold?

BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2013 08:47

YABU.

DD is off sick today with similar symptoms and I'm not even taking her to walk the dog never mind face the hell that is shopping at this time of year.

Stay home. The shopping can wait.

Fairylea · 03/12/2013 08:47

Yabu. Stay home and online shop.

Unless you have a toddler who enjoys a nap in the buggy... mine never would and would just be incredibly whingey and unhappy.

AugustaCarp · 03/12/2013 08:51

Thanks guys. I thought so. She's generally fine in herself, abs likes to be out and about. I'm not going to take her to any children's groups as she's probably contagious, and as I've had to take holiday I wanted to do something a bit productive. I guess a walk round the park.

I see you have decided not to anyway. Good decision!!

poocatcherchampion · 03/12/2013 09:01

I'm a sahm so dont have to make decisions about how sick in the way you would for nursery attendance. in the situation you describe I probably would have but cut it short if it was too much. but I only ever do a couple of hours shopping Max as it is too much otherwise.

NoComet · 03/12/2013 09:16

DD1 would have massively preferred to be out and about with things going on and she adored fairy lights. She would have happily shopped all day with or without a cold.

DD2 had fairly low shopping tolerance normally. If she was ill she would have got grumpy, she'd have wanted long BFs, hugs and to be able to crawl off and play.

Only you know your DC. I'm afraid I'm mean if there were jobs to be done DD2 would still have got taken shopping, it's just I'd try not to take all day and be certain to factor in a long feeding stop.

SoupDragon · 03/12/2013 09:18

I would not want to go shopping if I was unwell

If someone was going to push me around in a buggy, all wrapped up, I wouldn't care where they took me :)

CrazyOldCatLady · 03/12/2013 09:33

I'd definitely take DS shopping if he was sick; he prefers to be entertained without having to make any effort, so sitting in a buggy watching people and stuff and lights go past him would suit him perfectly.
