To be so excited that a new Aldi has opened right next to my work?

I have never shopped in Aldi before as I have never been near one

I used to get excited about a new club opening or a band touring, but come pay day on Friday I will be in there doing some serious damage.

AIBU? Or just old? And what should I buy?

YANBU

BUY CRISPS, wine, fruit and veg, frozen stuff, bog roll, oh the greek yogurt is lovely - just avoid the coffee

oh and the shampoo/conditioner for coloured hair ...better than any other brand i have used including redkin

BoohPear · 25/11/2013 22:43

Buy all the choc chip brioche, nappies and wipes you can get your hands on! then send them to me.

gobbynorthernbird · 25/11/2013 22:45

Wine, gin, chocolate.

Fakebook · 25/11/2013 22:53

I get these from Lidl, but I'm sure Aldi have them too: milk chocolate covered gingerbread shapes. I finished a whole pack of 18 in almost one go the other day. Lucky they only sell them during Christmas.

catgirl1976 · 25/11/2013 22:54

I've heard the nappies are good

I went in for a wander today and was going "Squeee..crumpets. 33p" like a loon but I can't go nuts till Friday.

The booze looked good - what is their own brand Baileys like?

There own brand Baileys is fabulous and they currently have a three pack of caramel, chocolate mint and chocolate orange Baileys-alike for a tenner.

cashmiriana · 26/11/2013 08:02

I'm jealous.
No Aldi for 18 miles here.... Love Lidl but that would make life even better.

TheRaniOfYawn · 26/11/2013 08:03

Also worth getting are the brioche swirly loaves in a tray, Moser Roth chocolate, Gluhwein, frozen pizza with salami and rocket, and to be honest, most things.

IamInvisible · 26/11/2013 08:05

They have put in planning to build one in our town, it would save us going 8 miles to Lidl or 16 miles to Aldi. The local paper was full of letters begging the council not to turn them down.

MimsyBorogroves · 26/11/2013 08:06

Their own baileys and some salted caramel fudge.

Then have a brilliant night in.

Grokette · 26/11/2013 08:08

This happened to me. I got fat!

Be warned. Easy access to Moser Roth during the working day is both a blessing and a curse!

KittensoftPuppydog · 26/11/2013 08:09

Loo roll, Parmesan cheese, tins tomatoes, pasta (29p for a bag of penne!), frozen chips.
Also look out for the odd stuff in the middle rows. I got a 100% wool jumper for £15 on Sunday.

pianodoodle · 26/11/2013 08:21

We've just started shopping there so still working out what's good.

The crisps are great and the toilet roll is much better than you'd expect for the price :)

I tried the value cheese as well it's not bad at all!

pianodoodle · 26/11/2013 08:27

Their own brand after eights are nice too. I bought a box to test before Christmas. Need to get another one though I tested them too thoroughly Grin

Will try the mince pies too as Lidl ones are lovely. Just watch out for the date they're still getting rid of boxes that are best before 20th December 2013 ;)

skinnychai · 26/11/2013 08:43

YANBU. Aldi rocks. Yes to the Moser Roth chocolate. Yes to buying all your groceries in there and feeling excited about how much you've saved. Can't comment on the baileys yet but will give it a try for Christmas. Hmm, I remember getting excited about new clubs and bands touring a long time ago but no, I am NOT old.

ovenbun · 26/11/2013 08:49

Yanbu, we have recently switched over to also for the weekly shop..our bill has gone from an average of 70 at tesco to 40. Buy the steak mince so cheap and great quality. The 'thick and creamy' yoghurts 27p and they are so lovely. The curry sauce with the spice rubs for the meat are also fab and of course don't forget the super six, six types of fruit or veg on offer for 49p! I've definitely been converted!

MurderOfGoths · 26/11/2013 08:52

One has just opened near us, hoping to pop over there later

Dawndonnaagain · 26/11/2013 08:53

Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake, mmmm!
Cold meats are excellent, and the Frozen Salmon en Croute is amazing.

tobiasfunke · 26/11/2013 09:00

The Oliver Cromwell 1599 gin is great
Hi-juice
Veg
Choc chip brioche
Stollen bites
Free range chickens (large and cheap)
frozen goose fat roast potatoes (if there are any left- they are like gold dust round here)
Yorkshire puddings- frozen
The baileys lookey-likey is also v good.
Crisps are good
Kids mini choc animal biscuits are better than the branded ones.

TheRaniOfYawn · 26/11/2013 09:14

I got a 12 year old single malt yesterday for £18. I haven't tried it yet, but I will report back.

Wine. I am a member of The Wine Society but I generally get all my wine from Aldi now.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 26/11/2013 09:30

We get meat from the butchers a mile or so away but our Aldi opens soon and I'll be getting all veg and sundries there.

Does anyone know what the allergen labelling is like? DD1 is intolerant to just ab anything interesting and so I have to read labels carefully.

Basically if i can't walk to it we won't be buying from there in a desperate bid to cut fuel costs.
