To suggest there exists a 'pecking order' when it comes to parenting..

lighthearted!

I was thinking today that there is a bit of a pecking order amongst parents. Along the lines of a mum of two would trump a mum of one. And the smaller the age gap the bigger the trump. Add in a multiple birth or two and you're untouchable.

Yeah, yeah, I need to get out more

Well naturally scottish would be the uber-mana

That makes me the queen, then?

YABU, by the way.

If we have a pecking order, scots first, then scousers and welsh
If you wear the mammy uniform of uggs, skinny jeans you're back of queue

I feel like I'm not a proper mum because I only have one, people with more just seem so much more 'proper' me!

Cheesyslice · 23/11/2013 20:27

Only in the mind of the individual. Par example, my annoying NCT friend believes she is superior because she had two DC under two. So, in her mind, she trumps me because I've only got one.

However, in my mind, I pity the cow therefore I trump her. Grin

My sister in law has 9 kids but I do not feel she is a better mum than me and social services aren't too keen on her parenting style either.

brettgirl2 · 23/11/2013 20:30

YABU

Do people really think like this?

JennyOnAPlate · 23/11/2013 20:36

Yanbu at all, I notice this a lot! Those in my circle with multiple children with small age gaps do like to hold it up as some kind of award worthy achievement!

JinglingRexManningDay · 23/11/2013 20:42

Four DC,raised dd1 as a single parent shortly after her birth, had two under two.
Did I win Grin?

LePetitPrince · 23/11/2013 20:50

Parents of twins, definitely. Never mind that the children are 9 and great at playing together, they'll still be saying how hard things are compared to a mother of 5.

Also among the top of the parenting pecking order are (in no order) the SAHM, the mumpreneur, the Jewish mum, the Irish mammy, the Italian mamma etc etc. Basically it's all rubbish!!

JackNoneReacher · 23/11/2013 20:50

Northerners beat southeners.

mollythetortoise · 23/11/2013 20:51

Yes agree. Ages important too. So for example mums with high school age trumps primary which in turn trumps preschool.
I do it too in that I will happily give advice if asked to a mum with younger children than me but I would not dream presuming i could give any sort of advice to a mum with more or older kids than me.
Unless different sexes involved e.g i had older girl child than another mum even if she had more/ older kids than me generally. Butadvice would have to be older girl related. Its complicated Grin

Subconscious pecking order definitely at work in my world!
