To wonder why I couldn't collect a parcel for my other half!!

Got a card through front door saying a parcel was attempted to be delivered and had been left at my local post office for collection. Take the card (which only said first line of address, no name) and proof of address with me. Lady takes card after checking proof of I.d, goes to check parcel and says I can't give you the parcel it's in a completely different name. I say the name I know it must be, she's says yes, but I can't let you collect it. Aibu to think, the name is obviously not on the card put through the door and I quite obviously live in the same house as the person the parcel is for! So if I would have been at home the delivery bloke would have handed it to me and let me sign for it. So really don't understand why she had to be such a jobs worth about it? It's so frustrating because my bloke is working all week and sat and sun all day then all week next week and sat, so actually won't be able to get to the post office himself to get it.

Weird Confused I've always been able to pick DPs up. Maybe my post office is just slack.

They are all jobsworths. I recently went to collect a parcel, couldn't find the card . They looked it up in a book , grudgingly after telling me they were too just to serve me (I was the only customer for miles ) and then were massively rude and unhelpful. I asked to speak to the manger who couldn't even string two words together, and certainly not 'I apologise'. They're in for a shock when it's properly privatised!!

Dp has to take a bill n my name or a bank card when he collects for me. It says do on tge back of the cards i think.

Its a bugger when the grandparents send stuff to the kids as they address if to them and we have to dig out birth certs

it might depend what it is - they might need the addressee on the letter/parcel to sign for it, and can't accept anyone else?

Perhaps they should not have been stupid enough to leave the name of the addressee off the card, if the addressee needs to be the person signing for it.

I've never had to take ID, just take the red ticket. Even when the dog had chewed it into a hundred bits they were fine.

I've done it before as well dontlet, I think that is what annoyed me most!! I knew she could give me the parcel she was just being an arsey cow over it! Didn't think about other half ringing although he works on a building site and signal is crap so don't think he could be bothered walking around for a signal to ring them. He doesn't even know what the parcel is...queen if I wasn't so shocked at her refusal to give me the parcel I probably would have asked for the manager to verify her refusal, although you always end up listening to clap trap about if my member of staff has said no then the answer is no, this is why I don't even bother trying to buy my cig georgettes at co op anymore - so obviously past it but still get refused, sorry - wrong thread! Ha! Our do you mean a bill with other half name and address? Yes may try that. I just took mine last time as didnt even know who it was for and hasn't been a problem before....

They can't give certain parcels without certain proofs. It's the fault of the postman who didn't write the name on the card

It does say on the back of the card about ID.

Have you collected parcels for your other half before with just your ID?

I've collected parcels for DH before. Thing is, I do need his driving license/passport to do so. As others have said, it's the postman's fault for not putting the name on the card. The post office person was correct.

I can't think of anywhere else where you have to have someone else's id - usually they're supposed to be checking that you are who you say you are.

I went to the post office yesterday to pick up a parcel. I handed in the card, they handed me the parcel and bye bye. Have never had to take id to our post office.

I've always had to show ID to collect a parcel, if the parcel is not in my name I've had to have ID for the person it was addressed to. It does say so on the back of the card?

I didn't actually get arsey with her, I just left. It's a parcel force card and after just checking it says to take the card and form of I.d which I did and as I said. So she is actually being a jobs worth or the other people who have given me parcels before are just not bothered about correct protocol - suppose its an individual choice which way you look at it....

I collect things for my mum at the local postie all the time, its a family owned one, so maybe they just know who people are, instead of the branch post offices.

Did the same to me recently. I had ordered the parcel so could tell them what was inside etc. I shouted for a while and left. Then I got in the car and realised I had his bank card. I showed it and they let me have the parcel.
It's so annoying!

It's just security, you'd be pissed off if someone stole your parcel. You only need to think of people where they might have a house converted into flats say, you could collect anybody's parcel.

They need id in case of house shares etc. If you take in his id there shouldn't be a problem. I used to work at a Post Office and that what we had to do. If it is a sorting office which is run by Royal Mail a whole separate company then I am not sure of their policy. Also you can ask them to redeliver to an alternative address unless it was a special delivery item. The phone number and website details should be on the back if the card to do this.

Queenmarigold, the post office is not being privatised!

The postman didn't leave you the card, parcelforce did. Take your Dhs ID to the post office tomorrow and they should give it to you.

I always collect dhs parcels. If I get a jobs worth saying they can't give it to me as it's not my name I just tell them it's my sons name and he's a baby so has no id. They always give it to me ;-)

Someone posted my baby a parcel when he was 2 weeks old and they asked for a bank statement or ohoto id to get it... We hadn't even registered him at that point, never mind got a bank statement abd photo id for him!
