to leave my job

Looking to canvas opinion on whether it would be unreasonable/foolish to leave my job for a year or so.

Have a nearly three year old DD and have been back at work for over two years full time (no scope for part time work in my firm or industry). Husband works four days a week and earns a fair bit more than me and we both have fairly stressful jobs. We both find working full time incredibly hard on us and on DD. Plus I really feel I want/need to spend time with her before she goes to school. I've had a couple of miscarriage in the last year as well so feel that DD might be my only child and hence I really want to enjoy her whilst she is still so young and not at school.

There is no scope to take a sabbatical at my current firm (have asked and I don't qualify plus it would only be for 10 weeks).

A year away from work is not ideal financially but we could afford for me to take the year out.

I'd do it. But I never had a career until I started my own company.

Do it, you won't get this time with your daughter again. Imagine yourself 40 years from now....which would you regret more, time out from work or missing your daughter grow up?

Merlotmonster · 21/11/2013 20:10

if you can afford it, then go for it..what have you got to lose?? sounds like you would always regret it if you didnt. x

I'd do it - only caveat is how easy you'd find it getting back into a job after a year or so out. Is it a fast-moving industry?

JeanSeberg · 21/11/2013 20:12

Depends how easy it will be to get back into it in a year's time and the long-term impact on your career.

bababababoom · 21/11/2013 23:03

Do it. Sod your career, you will never get these pre school years back.

Yes, do it.
