to sometimes feel like some posts are journalists writing thought pieces?

I'm not one for calling troll or I'm not one for being all suspicious but sometimes I read an OP and think it sounds like they are looking for stories or opinions to put into their article.

AIBU and, more importantly,am I alone in my 'That reads like bullshit' camp?

TEEARDIS · 21/11/2013 07:57

Nope, not alone and NBU.

Report them to MNHQ.

Pancakeflipper · 21/11/2013 08:00

I think there's a lot of made up opening posts on here at the moment.

Journos and also the few Christmas chancers will no doubt be appearing to try to seize on the goodwill of genuine people. Ah humbug, woke up with my cynical head on this morning.

JinglingRexManningDay · 21/11/2013 08:01

I would but I've no proof of anything just gut feeling.

I doubt MNHQ cares too much about my feelings Grin

Oh yes the begging posts will be popping up ten a penny now won't they.

Good to know I am not alone or slipping into some troll overload induced paranoia.

Yeah, and sometimes it reads like some political flunky puts stuff on here just to run it past us and see if they can get away with some new hell.

RevengeWiggle · 21/11/2013 08:03

Oh yes, the ones that go "something dramatic, I have no opinion myself, please discuss.... "

I've seen a couple of the Christmas chancers too.

Pancakeflipper · 21/11/2013 08:05

I hate Christmas Chancers because sometimes real people in real horrible situations must miss out on genuine help.

RevengeWiggle · 21/11/2013 08:21

True. I saw one yesterday and couldn't believe that posters were falling for it, it's a shame because there are so many generous and kind people on here and eventually it won't be worth helping anyone 'cos you can never be sure.

TEEARDIS · 21/11/2013 09:38

Actually, Jingling, they do. Report anything you find suspicious and they'll at least take a look.

It's the only way they'll ever know something is suspicious.

magimedi · 21/11/2013 09:41

Yes to both types of post.

If I see them I don't comment & just report.

JinglingRexManningDay · 21/11/2013 10:25

Yes to the political flunky.

I don't like the emotive ones that then get ridiculous and obviously trollish and then get deleted maybe that's their idea where people have told personal experiences.

I'm going to become a wart on the eye of MNHQ now with my bullshit radar.

OP posts:
ChippingInLovesAutumn · 21/11/2013 10:29

No - I am already driving 'Amy' mad I'm sure. I am trying to behave myself and 'report' instead of make 'obvious' comments, but it is starting to feel like a waste of time - maybe if more people were reporting the same threads it might help?

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 21/11/2013 15:56

Hello all,
Please be reassured that we take all reports seriously. As you know, troll-hunting is not allowed but the the collective MN bullshit radar is very important to the smooth running of the site and we appreciate your insight.

As an aside, I can confirm that Amy is not being driven mad, well, not by ChippingIn at any rate. Please do report your suspicions and we will look into them.

TEEARDIS · 21/11/2013 15:57

How many Helen's are there now? Grin

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 21/11/2013 16:01

We are Borg.

TEEARDIS · 21/11/2013 16:07
Grin Tardis
Anniegetyourgun · 21/11/2013 16:19

Wrong spaceship, TEEARDIS. Dammit, we need a Starship Enterprise emoticon now! Or a Borg cube. Or both.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 21/11/2013 16:22

I'm going to change my NN to 7of9!

TEEARDIS · 21/11/2013 16:24

I know but it was the only spaceship I had at my disposal!

NewtRipley · 21/11/2013 16:50

YANBU

Revenge

Yes, that's exactly the sort of post

Noseynoonoo · 21/11/2013 18:04

Whilst I do think we have journalists scouting for stories and quotes on here, the constant troll hunting on here is equally, if not more, annoying. When people want to ask a sensitive question or don't want to out themselves, it is not unusual for them to name change and then some one says, "Interesting first post Hmm ". Do people really search for an OP's previous posts on a regular basis?

TEEARDIS · 21/11/2013 18:07

That makes me nuts nosey and I've started pulling people up on it.

Like it even matters if it's someone's first post anyway. Everyone has had a first post!
