To think my dream job is a non runner.,,,

So I applied by email as requested on 1st nov.

I know there is a shot list, interview, then 2nd interview.
I got a reply to my email saying that she would be in touch re: shortlisting

I know the closing date is not until the 29th Nov but the advertisement had been taken down (likely due to high number of candidates).

So I emailed last fri to ask if there was any news, I have had no reply,

I know the start date is 9th dec.

Do you think I would have heard by now if I was getting interview? I'm goin crazy thinking about it!

First of all, you don't know it's your dream job until you actually interview.

I would not get in touch again since you have already tried and they didn't answer.

I would stop thinking about it and find another job to apply for.

mitchsta · 20/11/2013 15:03

I agree that you need to keep applying and focus on this again if/when the opportunity to attend an interview arises. If it doesn't, then it wasn't your dream job after all. I know people who hire regularly and they get peeved with 'any news' emails from hopeful applicants. You've submitted your application. You've received an email to confirm they have it. Move on.

Unexpected · 20/11/2013 15:13

If I was recruiting, it would irritate me no end to have candidates enquiring about progress before the closing date had even been reached. The advertisement may have been taken down but that doesn't mean it isn't being advertised elsewhere or that people won't still apply.

I do think it's an optimistically (or unrealistically) short time from closing date to the official start date for the job however. They are allowing 5 working days for shortlisting, two rounds of interviews, offer and acceptance?? Not going to happen.

Gangie · 20/11/2013 15:24

Yes unexpected that's what I though! Hence the feeling that they may be moving quicker than the original closing date.

Anyway I will wait and see I suppose, very fecking little jobs out there at the moment so I suppose I had my heart set on it! Ah well what's for you won't pass you by as my granny always said!

Just one question to unexpected, if you were recruiting and I emailed you for an update would you throw my cv in the bin?!!

Unexpected · 20/11/2013 15:28

No I certainly wouldn't! Smile That would be shockingly unprofessional. It might colour my impressions of you as a person but if there is likely to be a large response to the ad, I might not even remember your query when it came to shortlisting.

TEEARDIS · 20/11/2013 15:34

I wouldn't throw it in the bin, but I might remember your name and not in a good way when I reviewed my shortlist.

Not that you asked me. Grin

Y

fanjobiscuits · 20/11/2013 15:37

Oops. To expand slightly. Yabu. If it is your dream job and you don't get invited to interview, I would do an informational interview (google will tell you how), and look at any other places which might have same/similar jobs

Gangie · 20/11/2013 15:37

Well lesson learned! I won't ever send an 'any news' email again!!

While I have ye, what are the best tips you can give me for applications and interviews? What makes you likes someone and what's a big no no?! I know there are plenty of very obvious things but...

fanjobiscuits · 20/11/2013 15:38

ie yabu to give up on it so easily if it is your dream job. Clearly posting intelligibly isn't mine.

Financeprincess · 20/11/2013 15:40

(with apologies to any nice recruitment consultants reading this):

If this is a role going through a recruitment consultant, don't be at all surprised if you're treated rudely and requests for information go unanswered. The lack of courtesy is jaw dropping, even for very senior roles.

Not much comfort, I realise, other than to reassure you that it's not just you.

Gangie · 20/11/2013 15:49

That's fanjo I have never heard of that!
