to find this extremely strange?

When i was with my ex, he was forever accusing me of poisoning him.
He told me he always thought his mother was doing this also when he lived at home.
So i just put it down to his paranoia.
However, since we split i have noticed something strange...

We hadnt long bought a new kettle. Now im a tea addict, so the kettle is my best friend.

The filter was very much in your face when you opened it. Where as other kettles didnt seem so obvious.

Anyway...the filter was always seeming clogged. I was cleaning it on almost a daily basis. It seemed like a white substance, but also at times see through.

Now it hss been two weeks since he left....
The filter hasnt needed cleaned and still looks perfectly fine and clean.

Am i being stupid to think maybe he was accusing me because he was upto something like that?

He often said that poisoning could be something that is done over a number of years.
Mentioning how you could just put a tiny bit of bleach into someones drink. Over a log period of time, it would do skme damage.

Maybe i am the one being paranoid. But i do find this very, very weird!

Do you use fresh water each time you boil?

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 14:33

Yes. I boil just enough for one to two cups

He sounds potty. Not sure about the poisoning theory but it certainly seems as though he was responsible for the white, sometimes translucent substance (EUUUUUWWWW) in your kettle filter. The wrongun.

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 14:34

Sounds disgusting. Ugh the way you put that there. Awful thoughts in my head righf now. I feel quite sick

Have you moved house? Could be a simple explanation, like a difference in the minerals etc in your tap water. But I'd be buying a new kettle...It does seem a little odd.

OHforDUCKScake · 19/11/2013 14:38

Its lime scale.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/11/2013 14:38

Wouldn't it be hilarious if someone's first post was about kettle spunk.

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 14:39

No move since the kettle was bought.

I was just making another cuppa and noticed it.
It is the longest the filter has been cleaned. It wss that bad that often, i actually thought about replacing it.
But honestly, it hasnt needed cleaned since he left. Thats the weirdest part!

I definitely think a new kettle is needed now though. Must have had over 100cuppas since he left though. Urgh

It souinds like lime scale. And the build up will be less if your are only making half the number of cups of tea you used to make while exH lived at home.

Why don't you just clean it with kettle descaler rather than go to the expense of buying a new kettle?

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 19/11/2013 14:41

you're - sorry!

LovesBeingHereAgain · 19/11/2013 14:43

I would buy a new one to be safe yuck

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 14:46

I havent changed the amount of water i put in. I always just do enough for one to two cups.

Im going to agree to it being limescale though. Will buy a descaler (or maybe a new kettle) and put the other thoughts out of my mind!

OP posts:
ViviPru · 19/11/2013 14:49

Will buy a descaler

And some bleach. And some brain bleach. Fuck it, I'd get a new kettle.

Churlish · 19/11/2013 14:50

Maybe your ex (who sounds mad as a box of frogs) mistook limescale for arsenic deposits????? It does suggest he always let women make his tea, though... I can see why he's your ex.

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 14:51

Yes vivipru tis the only way!

MoominMammasHandbag · 19/11/2013 14:51

I think you are well shot of him OP. to even have those kind of thoughts he must be a seriously dodgy bastard.

Fakebook · 19/11/2013 15:04

Just soak it in white vinegar for a few hours and then scrape out the limescale. I love watching it fizzle and come away when you pour in the vinegar. It's my favourite chore.

Your ex sounds like he's been smoking a lot of weed in his past. I used to work with someone like that.

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 15:48

There doesnt seem to be any limescale?

He was weird, dodgy and disturbing. I am well shot. He now doesnt understand why i wont speak to him at all. After he took my son and refused to give him back for 3 days, had people threatening me and calling me all sorts. Not to mention the hundreds of other things he has said and done.
He really doesnt understand.

So your kettle was plagued by this stuff and now its not.

I had a new kettle of the electric type for some reason for the first month or so everytime I used it it had a substance like greasy lime scale sludge in it now it does not.

Perhaps when manufactured its coated with something

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 16:08

Yes sock! Maybe that is what it has been then. His timing and it disappearing could just be coincidental. The kettle isnt old, so that is possible!

Thank you sock. That has helped ease my mind a lot!

His timing of leaving*

Grin @ kettle spunk! Sorry OP.

My ex used to say these exact same things about me poisoning him via his cups of tea (which he insisted I made, the controlling chauvinist bastard). I laughed it off at first as I was young and naïve, but when he accused me of plotting with the owners of our local convenience store to have him killed I realised his paranoia was not normal. Hmm

He was diagnosed with schizophrenia soon after. Even apart from his mental health issues he was a very wrong 'un indeed.

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 17:03

See that is what i feel he has. But he was diagnosed with PTSD. Yet all of his symptoms that did link with ptsd...only came to light after hearing about them from his therapist or myself.

I am 90% positive that he was diagnosed with something else and kept it from me.

I'm bored so I just googled some weird stuff about kettle manufacture.

Apparently all plastic bits are coated in a greasy substance during manufacture to make them come out of the plastic moulds the only thing that shifts it is time.

wontletmesignin · 19/11/2013 17:14

That is very pleasing to hear, socks! Thank you
