To be v disappointed in American Express

I have used an AMEX card for some time. The reward scheme used to be really good, and DH and I would put as much of our shopping as possible on the card, so that periodically I could use Reward points to get Amazon vouchers. Sometimes they would run out, but I would wait a week or so and they would restock.

I now have £100 worth of reward points, and have been trying to claim them since July.. to no avail. After many phone calls ( different story every time, broken promises) it appears they will not do Amazon vouchers with my card ever again. Other alternatives ( M&S,not ideal but I would have taken them) are also sold out.

I was planning to use the £100 for christmas presents for the DC. I can't buy presents for them with the vouchers that are available. ( wrong sort of shop).

The staff on the phones are great but never seem to have up to date information.

The faceless people behind the desks say " the contract says subject to availability".

Am v v disappointed with this service and am actively seeking alternative credit cards

Is it just me ?

Rant over.

I used to have AmEx but ditched it as so few places in Germany accepted the cards due to the high fees to retailers. It was no big deal as I pay everything off every month anyway, it was just handy for travel as there was no limit on the card.
Why not cancel, explaining why, and use another company?

Mine just does cashback and credits it to the card once a year, I'd change to that, then you can spend it wherever you want.

Tbh I am so disenchanted with them I am going to change credit card providers... I just feel that I have been misled.

I have now had to redeem my £100 with vouchers for another store, just to get my hard earned points out of their grasp... grrrrr!
