Car insurance... third company asking for info

I phoned my car insurance company yesterday (KwikFit) to let them know about an accident I'd had last week (may be irrelevant, but my fault, and I'm not claiming for damage to my car).

They passed me through the underwriters (ABC) so that I could give them the information they needed to process the claim from the other party when they receive it.

Today I have a call from Liverpool Victoria insurance asking me for more information (names and adresses of both parties etc). They say THEY are the underwriters.

I say "hang on - I gave all the information to ABC yesterday - KwikFit say they are underwriters - what is your connection to the claim?"

LV say "we are ABC".

AIBU to refuse to talk to them, as I have no proof that a)they are ABC and b)have anything to do with my claim/me at all or even c)are who they say they are when they phone me out of the blue?

The LV woman volunteered to me a phone number to call her back on - but how would I know this is a genuine LV number and not some scam, and how do I know that LV are entitled to the info anyway? I said I would call KwikFit to give them the info required.

I pay KwikFit, surely all my dealings should be with KwikFit???

apparently abc insurance are 'backed by' liverpool victoria, whatever that means.

I suspect it means our premiums are so high because a is buying off b who gets a slice from c who hops into bed with d and by the time you get to us (aka M. For Muggins) it's elevently squillion quid.

Thanks Revels - but the girl should have explained that to me on the phone, or introduced herself as ABC and not LV.
