To want more to do at work?

My job is a bit of a strange one. Sometimes I'm snowed under, other times nothing. The last three days I have had virtually nothing to do. Take yesterday, I was finished by 10.30am and had to look bust for the rest of the day. That basically involved looking at websites related to my job which I have looked at 1000 times before and hiding in the toilets.

I am sat here dreading work as it is awful if there is nothing to do. I want a new job desperately but nothing is coming up.

Should I tell my boss about the work situation? I would be happy to extend my role if possible but to be honest I don't know how.

I think you definitely need to tell your boss and word it that you would like to take on more projects now you have your day to day tasks under control.

Explain the situation to your manager, or ask them if you can assist them with whatever they are doing, even if they have nothing that they can immediately pass on to you they will appreciate you asking. Too many people these days expect to be spoon fed work and will happily sit at their desk for hours/days waiting for someone to give them something to do. At the end of the day a manager will always remember the proactive person over the 'hide behind their PC and do no nothing' person
