My DH is SAHP and every time I get home from work I find the same thing going on...

DD (2.5 yo) has a bunch of toys assembled, does a register and then starts drilling them (usually on octonauts facts). It's all 'number 9, who took the octocompass?' 'no, no, no....the cuttlefish' and 'number 2, Where is kwazi's spyglass?' 'yes, well done it's in the treasure chest'.

As well as the obvious rote learning issues I was also pretty concerned that she has numbered rather than named her toys too until DH pointed out that many of the 'class' are duplo blocks which actually have numbers on...so maybe fair enough....

Anyway AIBU to worry that DD's toys will turn into rote learning robots and flunk out at university? Should DH try and insert some more learning by playing into the routine?

Gove would LOVE her. In fact, she could probably get a job right now, pay for her upkeep.

Maybe she just loves Octonauts?

DD loves it and has taught me the joys of Pink River Dolphins, Cookiecutter Sharks, Blobfish and so on Grin

LOL Grin that's brilliant, I love the idea of trying to teach Duplo bricks.

At that age DD2 used to feed them to her dog on wheels, not improve their education.

I am worried about the reverse counting involved in stacking cups, is there a helpline for this sort of thing?

IceBeing · 13/11/2013 12:21
