In thinking my 7 month DD doesn't need a bloody coat?

I put a cardigan on her to go between house/car etc and just add blankets/hat when she goes in the pram so she's not cold. My mum keeps insisting she must wear a coat but I just can't see the need.

AIBU? When would she wear it?!

Well she shouldn't wear a coat in her car seat anyway, so unless you're going to carry her out of the pram, I agree with you.

I'd put a coat on when she's in the pram but not to go from house to car.

She would wear it if you were carrying her. Or in a few months when she is toddling and it is unseasonably cold but the shops have decided that it is summer and all you want to buy is a t-shirt.

I guess if you never take her out of the pram outside then she doesn't need one. Is she lying flat in the pram still? Do you manage to keep her totally covered with blankets without her wriggling/kicking them off?

I've just had the same conversation with an inlaw. I generally have my 3 month old in a sling under my coat.

Plenty warm enough in just a vest and sleepsuit. Cardigans for in the house and blankets in the car.

I quite like snow suits for the buggy, but my baby's still in the carrycot and with a blanket, the pram cover and a waterproof cover she's quite toasty enough.

I get when she is toddling but not sat in the pram when blankets are better. Pram has its fleece lining in, she has cardigan,blankets and cozy toes which keeps everything in. She's upright, not laid flat. If I have to carry her I wrap a blanket round but this doesn't happen often as she's heavy!

I had a pram suit type thing for mine before he was walking so I didn't have to keep him in the pram all the time - he could be carried about or crawl around outside. We spend time outside though rather than just going from car to building.

I tend to put DD in a coat in the pram, because otherwise her arms get cold. She's now in the snowsuit thing and no blankets in the pram. Far easier than her kicking them off or wriggling out, but I don't drive everywhere, if you are a 'drive everywhere only walk short distances' type, then she'll be fine without, if you can keep her in the covers.

It's freezing up here at the moment, I wouldn't go out without a coat and a wooly jumper and warm boots, I'm in the North of Scotland though and there's snow on the hills.
If she's not outside much fair enough though

My dd is 7 months, she has a coat but only wears it when in the pram, probably about 4 days a week

I don't really understand how you get the blankets to stay on her when she's sat upright in a pram. My children always wanted to look around them and a snowsuit/coat would keep them far warmer at this age then a blanket that can be shrugged off.

when mine were little they didnt always wear coats. vest and clothes/sleepsuits, possibly tights under. a cardigan/jumper either knitted or fleece and then bundled up with blankets, cosy toes etc and these are much easier to remove/pull back when you go into shops etc, esp if they are asleep.

oh and a hat.

i often see little babies in snowsuits etc in shopping centres and i am so hot i have had to take off my coat, they musr be at risk of ovetheating and babies can overheat very quickly.

my cosy toes zips right up so just their head is peaking out, or i zip it lower deoending on temp and if its raining they have raincover which also traps heat.

i need to dig my cosytoes out for dd actually.

Mine has blankets, our buggy doesn't have a cosy toe. She has a coat on (well its a thick fleece ladybird jacket thing) and a hat and a babygro and vest. She is warm, except for her hands- she won't keep them in the blanket or keep mitts on...

I cannot fathom NOT buying a nice, warm coat for a baby outside in a pram in this cold.

I got a coat for DS last winter, he wore it once an that time I had to take it off cos he got too got in his super footmuff!! I've got him one this year but that's mostly for nursery!

At 7 months I'd definitely put a child in a coat. Blankets can be thrown / kicked off and it's cold!

I have this dilemma all the time. we have coats but I would never use them in car seats but I feel negligent when dh and I have them on and 19mo and 2mo dont.

Does she never take her arms out? Or get out of the pram?

She only ever has her head poking out when she leaves the house?!

I would expect my pre-crawling child to be either wrapped snugly in the pram or in the sling. I wouldn't take her out of those in this weather unless necessary.

By 7 months, my babies were either crawling or at least very interested in the world around them, and wouldn't want to stay wrapped up in the pram all the time.
