To Think Bathstore.com are taking the piss?

I bought a shower cubicle from Bathstore.com a few years ago which I have no complaints about, it's good quality and has lasted well so far.

However, the shower seals at the bottom of the doors soon split and discolour (nothing gets the discolouration out of a certain part of the seals which is bent over on itself and impossible to clean - I've tried everything).

Up until last year you could get free replacement seals and I usually got one set a year. Then, last year they started charging about £5 a pair, which I thought was reasonable since I was always surprised they'd supplied them free of charge up until then anyway.

This year I've just asked about some replacement seals and they've quoted me £15.36 for the pair and £5 postage on top of that - so £20.36!

AIBU to think this is just a blatant rip off and not to shop there again?

I don't really think its taking the piss, to be fair. Confused it's only £20.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 09/11/2013 16:36

If you think it's too expensive why not just get them elsewhere?

CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 16:37

£20 isn't the issue really, it's the fact it's quadrupled in price in a year. Also, £5 for postage for two, lightweight bits of plastic that aren't particularly bulky is pretty expensive.

They obviously realised they were crazy to give them away and had priced them too low. You could save the postage by picking them up

PrincessFlirtyPants · 09/11/2013 16:40

Most stores have a set price for p&p they don't differ it if the item weighs less.

CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 16:41

They won't let me pick them up, they have to send them by post. Confused Have tried buying generic ones elsewhere but they don't fit - oh, well, just better suck it up I suppose.

If you have an item number, I would Google and see if you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Might be 'only' £20 to you princess, but £20 is a lot of money to some!

CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 16:43

PrincessFlirtyPants I definitely didn't pay £5 to have my bathroom delivered from them - if only! Grin

What pink said. Must be cheaper somewhere. I'd do an online search.

Agree it's a big increase and p&p is shocking. I pay less on everything I buy, even next day delivery or things that are bulky or heavy.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 09/11/2013 16:46

Bathstore isn't really known as a budget option though. If you want cheap bathroom stuff go to Wickes next time. It's a bit like complaining that shopping costs more at Waitrose than it does at Asda.

CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 16:48

Pink & Giles thank you and I know what you mean about finding them elsewhere (am usually the Google Bargain Queen) but the doors are curved so it's quite difficult to find seals that fit - one curved door is not the same as another unfortunately.

OP posts:
CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 16:49

Er, they were the cheap option for seals (I checked before buying!) which is one of the reasons I bought from there NoArmani, they have since changed their policies and prices.

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 09/11/2013 16:50

Is there something you can paint them with to stop them discolouring?

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/11/2013 16:52

If they re splitting within a year surely there's some consumer garuntee right or something so you shoukdvt have to pay for replacements when they aren't providing a quality product or it's not for for purpose?

CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 16:55

Not really Giles as it is impossible to get anything (even cleaning fluid) into the folded back bit of the seals, it's really annoying as they go a weird orange colour. They also seem to perish and split really easily as well so even if you get them clean they look a state. I know it's a first world problem but it is bloody annoying.

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 09/11/2013 16:59

Maybe email customer services. The discoloration is cosmetic I guess although it shouldn't happen so quick. But the fact they are splitting impels that they aren't even fit for purpose. You shouldn't have to keep replacing them. I'd enquirer about refunds rather than replace

PrincessFlirtyPants · 09/11/2013 16:59

PrincessFlirtyPants I definitely didn't pay £5 to have my bathroom delivered from them - if only!=

Grin

I did mean for smaller items! Smile

CleopatrasAsp · 09/11/2013 17:02

That's a good idea thank you Giles, I've just emailed them. :)

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/11/2013 17:10

Good luck :)

£5 for P&p takes the piss. How much was te shows screen? That's like 25-50 pound a year. Won't be long til the costs required to maintain it are greater than the original item Confused
