You guys use Acronyms a hell of a lot. I know there's a page which lists all of them but, hell Calm Down!

Acronyms used by nice people in a hurry, who don't mind explaining if asked =fine

Acronyms used as a private passive aggressive code by people too cowardly to type what they mean, so they can run away sniggering that the newbie didn't get it= much too much like school.

Most of them are not acronyms but abbreviations or initialisms...

Beast- I think it was directed at the op, not you. And the poster is probably busy and not had a chance to come back yet. Asking about acronyms will always prompt a thread full of them, some just made up on the spot for fun, there's no malice.

Agree with mackerella. If you're going to have a pop at a group of people, get the facts straight.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the problem is actually with abbreviations not acronyms. Acronyms are abbreviations that become words (such as laser, radar etc).

I take the OP's point though, it can be incomprehensible. I've been on mumsnet for years and only recently learnt what STBXH meant.

If your brain is full, OP, we don't mind if you type out the words in full, being generally reasonable people.

You should join the military, there is a 373 page pdf on the MOD website of all the acronyms they use. Sometimes it takes ages for DH to tell me about his day as he has to translate everything!
