When you change gas suppliers do you routinely cancel the associated direct debit with the bank as well as the supplier?

What about other redundant dd's,do you trust they wont be called on?

No I cancel them with the bank myself to make sure.

headlesslambrini · 08/11/2013 08:32

I do it with the bank, peace of mind to know that it is done.

RevengeWiggle · 08/11/2013 08:33

Yes I always cancel DDs with both the bank and the company

Goldmandra · 08/11/2013 08:33

I was just trying to work out how you cancelled your daughter with at the bank! Shock

Sorry. I'm having one of those days.

ilovepowerhoop · 08/11/2013 08:36

once the final dd has been taken then I cancel it with the bank. I normally do it via Internet banking.

mumteedum · 08/11/2013 08:46

I would but even if you only cancel with company and they still take payment, you are entitled to refund from bank ( who claim back from company) under Dr guarantee.

mumteedum · 08/11/2013 08:49

Ah phone!! Dd guarantee not dr!

PumpkinPie2013 · 08/11/2013 08:54

I always cancel with both - stops the company taking the dd abd then having to sort it out.

spidersolitare · 08/11/2013 11:00

Well, you lot are certainly organised!

I had a random wd from an old dd and it made me overdrawn. I am going green bananas having to pay £8 for someone else's mistake. Surely the supplier is committing fraud taking money when the agreement is cancelled

[promises to spring clean bank accounts]

use the direct debit guarantee to get your bank to give the money back then. I worked in a bank so know to cancel dd's with both the company and the bank to prevent extra payments being taken.

Mmolly2013 · 08/11/2013 17:09

I work for a bank also. It should be cancelled at both ends but even so if it is taken out and it wasnt supposed you ask your bank for a direct debit indemnity and they will put the money into your account and then dispute it with the other company for you
