To think that the way some animals are treated is disgusting....

I'm watching a programme called RSPCA Animal Rescue and some of the cases nearly have me in tears. There are domestic cats and dogs being neglected to the point of abuse, the state they are in is just disgusting and the owners don't give a sh*t Sad Animals with no fur due to fleas and mites, animals with infected teeth and gums barely able to eat, animals with abscesses and burns on them, animals with fractured limbs that are left just lying in gardens and so much more. I just watched one episode where RSPCA visited one home and found 2 dead puppies in the garden because of a nasty stomach bug they'd had which could easily have been avoided. The vet explained that due to the nature of the bug the puppies would have been in extreme pain Smile I also get so upset when they show all the neglected horses who are so starved you can see all their ribs and half the time their hooves are so long and infected they can hardly walk. I just don't understand it. And the way the owners act 'completely surprised' as to why the RSPCA have been contacted and why their pets are being seized just disgusts me - they just show complete nonchalance. Thank god a huge proportion of the owners are either fined huge amounts or jailed.

I absolutely, absolutely love animals and the happiness and health of my cats are so important to me - I just don't understand how some humans can be so vile that they can just leave animals to suffer...

Ps) apologies for the smiley face when talking about the puppies being in pain, that was obviously a huge error, it was supposed to be a Sad face x

Yes, it's horrible. Like you I'm an animal lover. What I will say though is that many who neglect animals either had good intentions but were unable to cope due to mental health issues/poverty etc or often have pretty brutal lives themselves. It's not an excuse but does help to explain why people do it. Also bear in mind that if you locked a dog or cat in a shed or a crate you'd have the RSPCA at your door; do it to a pig or chicken and that's perfectly acceptable legally, as factory farming. Out attitudes to animals are very strange.

I watched the programme on animal horders last night. There are some very well intentioned, misguided people about.

Its horrible. Sentances for animal cruelty is not long enough!

Most of it is lack of knowledge.

There was a post recently on my local facebook 'spotted' page: Someone had lost an 11 week old kitten, they'd let it out assuming all cats find their way home.

Hmm

My exMiL used to keep her dog in the downstairs toilet in her house. She thought that was fine because it was a small dog.

She had her pets taken away eventually but it took time.

There are a lot of people out there who shouldn't have pets.

There are also a lot of pet shops that shouldn't exist as well.

Unfortunately a fair few of the latter supply the former Angry

I've always found programmes like this tough to watch but since my cat was killed a few months ago I can barely stand to watch them. Owning an animal is a privilege and a huge responsibility and I hate hatred in my soul for people who mistreat animals.

You are braver than me - I have never been able to watch those programmes. We have always had rescue dogs and live with the fallout every day of other people's cruelty.
It is amazing how forgiving and trusting animals can be despite experiencing appalling cruelty at the hands of humans.

On a slightly different note I went into our local village store and tore them off a strip this morning for selling squirrel meat.
Some arsehole round here shooting squirrels to make a few quid.
They aren't his squirrels to kill, they belong to us all.
It makes me so fucking mad.
