Make sure when the lead is replaced that it is sprayed with smartwater. Check with the local planning office to see if you have to use lead as a replacement or if a less attractive material can be used.

Zinc will be a lot cheaper. Hopefully you'll know of or be able to find a local chap capable of forming it. There'll be an awful lot more of this type of theft all over the UK in the coming years.

Thanks ladies. My old mum if fine but freaked out,feeling very vulnerable and scared. The theft happened friday morning,broad day light and she was home so understandably is a bit shakey. She saw or heard nothing.Shes very frail and very sick and basically house bound

The house she lives in is a listed building,which I find really funny cos I grew up in that house and it wasnt listed then. My dad paid BIG bucks to have the roof done to spec not long before he died and as its slate and lead was expected to out last the pair of them.

My brothers have gone and sorted it but not with lead. It shouldnt leak now but it is a patch job.To hell with council and their regulations,theres no money to to it to "spec" at this point.

Since June my 3 kids bikes have been stolen, their scooters, my iPhone, a flicker then my fuckin house. The house was within days of it be viewed as I was letting it.

My house wasn't stolen lol. I meant burgled obviously!

Her insurance company may well have preferred roofers, so it may not be as complicated as her having to find contractors etc.
