...my child asks for a Thomas the tank engine story or Fireman Sam at bedtime?

I'm a firm believer in bedtime stories. My son enjoys them, I enjoy reading them...most of the time, but Good God!!!! Thomas and Fireman Sam are so dull.

Does anyone else have better coping strategies?!!!

Only buy books you like.

2tiredtoScare · 02/11/2013 20:30

I've sent myself in to hysterics trying to do all the accents in the Fireman Sam books to try and alleviate the sheer bloody boredom of them, they are soooo long

FromthePinkGlitterySide · 02/11/2013 20:30

I do this with fucking Mr men books Grin

Sausagewaffle · 02/11/2013 20:32

I have tried that, but mine are very observant and tell me i missed a page and must go back...

Sausagewaffle · 02/11/2013 20:32

i feel your pain lol

ilovecolinfirth · 02/11/2013 20:32

I do try to buy books that I like, but my son was given the box set of 50 sodding Thomas books, and chose Fireman Sam at the library. Agree, Mr Men are really irritating (except Mr Tickle... A bit of a fan of him)

Totally. In our house Mr Men books are read grudgingly, and minus all the adjectives and adverbs.

(I clicked on this thread thinking op meant "skip pages on mn threads and then reply anyway", I was all ready to give op both barrels Grin)

stargirl1701 · 02/11/2013 20:35

50! Oh dear God. You need to plan your revenge! Grin

Only have a few books 'out' at any one time. Put the rest in the garage and rotate them so you are only exposed to one a week!

Maybe if you hid one every week over a year DS wouldn't notice. Then in a year they would all be gone!!

Lepreporn · 02/11/2013 20:39

If I ever skip a page my dd age 5. Punishes me by making me start again right from page 1.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 02/11/2013 20:40

I LOVE Mr Men books! But yes, mmm were absolutely dire. Horrible and pointless and so twee. They got donated pretty swiftly to the local hospital!
Yanbu though, reading can be such a pleasure but it's awful reading boring books. Maybe you could accidentally lose them somewhere? Like the bin?

I think I am actually going to have to get rid of them. My heart sinks at the thought of reading about Perfect Bloody Thomas and Self righteous James

stargirl1701 · 02/11/2013 20:45

I read stories to the DC while they are in the bath.

ilovecolinfirth · 02/11/2013 20:52

Ooooh, stories in the bath? Time saver! I love it! Imagine accidentally dropping all 50 Thomas Books in the bath at the same time too! ;)
