DS (4) hasn't been out guising yet but has already been given three bags of stuff from neighbours.

they are full of crap- lollipops, ringpops, hard candy etc, lots of lovely teeth-hating goodies.

i've hidden them and just kept the chocolate/haribo/crisps and fruit. and i ate the monkey nuts (choking hazard Wink )

AIBU or should i just let him have it?

Why are you going to take him guising if you won't let him eat what he gets?

Grin Swag means a whole other thing to me!

Yanbu, I 'edited' dtds Christmas, Halloween and Birthday sweeties at that age too. They did get most of them back again, just doled out in reasonable quantities on Friday's after school etc.

I'm working, so i'm not actually taking him guising, my mum mught take him round to a couple of houses.

i've left most of it. just the really sugary stick to your teeth forever stuff has been hidden for now. in one bag there were three lollies, a ringpop, two boiled sweet skulls, a mini mars bar, love hearts, monkey nuts and an apple. to me that's is alot more than necessary anyway (not that im ungrateful, but last year it was small pack of crisps, chocolate biscuit, piece of fruit).

he has his fair share of treats, i by no means deprive him of a sugar fix but i just don't want him sucking on lollipops for half an hour.

Take the excess and the sticky ones to your food bank or homeless shelter. In fact, encourage DS to help you with it (not go there, I didn't like the Victorian aspect of it when I worked in one).

The whole point of Halloween is that you don't have to feed them for a couple days as they just eat sweets Grin

Let him have them. That's the whole point but its only right to nick a lot few.

I'm co-hosting a kids Halloween party. 8 kids trick or treating, Imma get me some treats!

have binned the lolipops, he can have the other bits a little at a time.

suppose it's only once a year i was being a bit dull.

i dont have a foodbank anywhere near me or i might have gone down that route
