To be seriously considering a tummy tuck

Ive got 4 DC between 7 and 15. I'm a size 10/12. I absolutely hate. my tummy.
I've been to see a surgeon and he has agreed to do a tummy tuck.
I'm scared about the risks
I know that it is shallow, I wish I could be one of these women that sensibly takes these changes on the chin .
But I can't.
Has anyone had one , and would you

I would avoid surgery if possible

My friend just had bunion removed from her toe. She wishes she'd left it wonky!

Otoh if u think it will make u happy go for it. Expensive and painful, worth it?

I think the scarring from tummy tucks looks worse than the loose skin & I have 4 aged six and under so I know how you feel!

I know, the scarring is awful, but I won't be naked much! Im sick of it looking bad in clothes.

How much of the problem is loose skin, and how much is fat? If you can resolve a lot of the problem with diet and exercise then do that. If you can't and you're really unhappy then go for it.

I am a size 8, but had a saggy, hangy down, wobbly apron of skin on my lower stomach. I lost weight and exercised as much as possible, but obviously the only thing that would deal with the skin was a tummy tuck, I had it done. The excess skin is gone, but I have a 'dogear' so will need more surgery. My belly button looks a bit weird too.

I'm glad to have got rid of the apron, but it was really, really expensive and I'm not over the moon about the prospect of more surgery.

X-posts. Yes the scarring is bad, but it does look much better in clothes, and much MUCH better naked. The skin was infinitely worse than the scar.

If it will make you feel better & happier then it will be 100% worth it... Please don't feel you have to justify your choice to anyone. It's obviously not something you're doing on a whim to be fair if something was affecting my everyday life I would change it

I'm planning one at the end of July 2014. I know 2 women who've had TTs and they were both delighted. I don't think they had lipo though and were their optimum weight first.

YANBU because only you know how you feel about your body. Go into it with your eyes open though.

I would defo do it, i know somebody who had it done years ago and its still looking good just make sure you get a good surgeon and her scaring wasn't that bad. Well worth it.

I had mine done in 2011. It was awful at the time - the recovery was much worse than I thought - but now I LOVE IT!!!

Out of interest, has anyone had a hysterectomy and then a tummy tuck later. I want to know which recovery is worse.

Had mine about 8 years ago, along with a breast reduction at the same time. After 3 dcs lots of sagging /weight yo-yoing, the skin was terrible. Best thing i ever did! Transformed my outline - couldn't care less about scars - they gradually fade and how many people see them anyway?! And only had a couple of 'rough' days after the op, was really just uncomfortable/stiff/achey but really honestly NO BIG DEAL. It boosted my confidence immeasurably and whilst my weight changes sometimes/size veers from 12- 14 I STILL feel good because I'm no longer lumpy or saggy!

One of my friends had hers done & she said the scar didn't matter as she really couldn't go naked or wear a bikini before. While she was out she had lipo done on her hips, she said the recovery from that was worse than the tummy tuck.

Obviously surgery isn't something to take lightly -which you aren't doing.

My friend had a tummy tuck and breast lift done 3 months ago following 2nd and final dc. She loves it, I have seen the results and they really are amazing.

I would say do what makes you happy.

i know someone who had it done io hungary and thought as well as the price being much lower she was better cared for than io the uk

I'm honestly considering it, but not until I've lost the weight, like the other poster said about fat, ect.

Do you mind me asking if it would be paid for outright or on finance? It's something I've looked into so many times, the finance didn't seem that bad with one particular company whose name I've forgotten! X

I wouldn't. I've got four children to look after and would never have a GA unless it was completely unavoidable for medical reasons. There are risks after surgery (for example, blood clots) as well as during the operation itself.

I don't have any issues with cosmetic procedures in principle but I'd only consider treatments that can be done with local anaesthetic.

I would be paying for it with an interest free credit card. Im not taking it lightly.
I would love a breast uplift at the same time but I did not know if it could be done together safely.
Im 9 1/2 stone and 5 ft 51/2 so I'm not overweight. I did get down to 9 stone a few years ago and tummy was not as bad, I do not want to have to starve myself to get to this weight again.
I exercise a lot and took up running to see if this would help. I did a half marathon recently ,but my tummy is still the same.
Ive also got stretch marks which would be removed.

MIKE . The surgeon said it was all skin not fat.( Although it looked less bad when I was very thin)

I didn't have a GA for my hysteectomy. I had a spinal and sedation. It was excellent and that's what I will have for any abdominal surgery in future. There are options if you want to avoid GA.

I would love one without a GA but thought it was not possible.
Have you found a surgeon who will do it without a GA?

LetsFaceTheMusic - that's good to know, I didn't realise that. What did the sedation feel like? Could you remember anything afterwards?

Also, if anyone has had a c-section as well as a tummy tuck, is the recovery similar?

I would love one... 3 c-sections have taken their toll!!

I say if you want it do it, just the obvious chose a reputable surgeon not a cheap abroad jobbie. I would imagine the recovery is similar to a c-section so take it easy after the op & enjoy the results.

Yes you have have uplift at same time, only have to recover once from the pain then.
