It absolutely STINKS!!!

It is in the family bathroom which my two boys mainly use.

At least I am assuming it is the carpet!! I have to keep the door closed and window open Blush

What should I replace it with?

We have put down vinyl in our bathroom - at least its moppable - something I was very glad about when DS threw up all over it whilst sitting on the loo the other day.

mistlethrush · 29/10/2013 11:20

BTW, also told DS on Sunday that, unless he could start hitting the water in the toilet he was going to have to mop the floor in the bathroom 4x a week and clean the toilet at the same time... no misfires since then Wink

bundaberg · 29/10/2013 11:22

yes i did the same in my bathroom, it was vile.

mine have been threatened with having to clean the toilet and floor if they keep "accidentally missing"

i mean how hard can it be! they have a pointable appendage ffs

CoffeeTea103 · 29/10/2013 11:35

Do you mean that your bathroom floor is carpeted? I've never heard of this.

Dawndonnaagain · 29/10/2013 11:39

Bloomin' new houses with their carpetted bathrooms, it's disgusting. Whenever we have moved, I have ripped out bathroom carpets more or less immediately. I always replace with vinyl. Washable and easy.

ZombieRevengeWiggle · 29/10/2013 11:43

Rip it up, we have vinyl too and it's so easy to clean.

killpeppa · 29/10/2013 11:45

rip it!

myBOYSareBONKERS · 29/10/2013 12:09

vinyl it is then!!

Should I go for tiles or one complete sheet?

Any advise welcome!

OP posts:
bundaberg · 29/10/2013 12:13

sheet. the tiles are crap and stuff seeps down between them.

get someone to lay it though! it looks easy but it really isn't lol

Shonajoy · 29/10/2013 12:17

Nope it's foul carpet in a bathroom. I did mine myself, used the old carpet as a template making sure I reversed it, then tacked a wooden runner round the edges it looked fab x

Scholes34 · 29/10/2013 12:31

Cork tiles - a bit old fashioned, but lovely a warm. Just need a coat of varnish.

DziezkoDisco · 29/10/2013 12:36

Vinyl all the way, cork is always a bit absorbent.

wonderingsoul · 29/10/2013 12:50

ewwww carpet in the bathroom is MINGING.

you get thread worms from the water spillages..

no do it.. and do it today

Scholes34 · 29/10/2013 13:15

Cork's fine as long as you varnish it.

hiddenhome · 29/10/2013 13:20

We have laminate in the bedrooms and it stays clean with no probems. You just vacuum then mop with some soapy wood cleaner or spot clean with an antibacterial wipe.

No more smells Smile

FlapJackOLantern · 29/10/2013 13:21

The carpet in MY bathroom is pristine, soft, warm and beautiful.....and wonderful to step on to after a shower Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/10/2013 13:25

I live in Canada and when I tell people here that washrooms sometimes have carpet in them in the UK I get Shock that face. It is foul.

You can do laminate with waterproof sealant. Looks nicer than vinyl IMO.

bigwellyfucker · 29/10/2013 13:30

We lived in a rental with carpets in the bathrooms. Disgusting. Just so so disgusting.

Our house has lovely laminate in the cloakroom and vinyl sheet upstairs bathroom. Granted upstairs isn't quite to my taste but its v easy to keep clean

CleverClod · 29/10/2013 13:37

Even vinyl will allow seepage to get underneath and smell eventually.

Tiles are the way to go, even better with underfloor heating :)

Tailtwister · 29/10/2013 13:40

YANBU, rip it up now!

Objection · 29/10/2013 15:02

Replace it with rubber.

Or their bedsheets. That'll teach 'em!

myBOYSareBONKERS · 29/10/2013 15:14

Have booked for a company to come out and give a quote to supply and fit.
