Supposed to be going to York this weekend to visit the dc gp's. I have 2 dogs and 2 guinea pigs and so asked my brother to house sit for me. He said yes, so I booked the hotel, but today (leaving on Saturday) hes said he cant housesit as he's going out on Saturday and wont be around until sunday evening.

I can get people to look after the guinea pigs in their own home and even the smaller dog but no one will look after the Labrador (hes not great with strangers for his recall and a nervous dog) I have looked at kennels but they won't take them as they need kennel cough vaccination and all round here say 2 weeks after vaccination and not before, so even I got them vaccinated today would only be 4 days.

My hotel is non refundable and no pets allowed so at the least if I don't go I have lost £300.

Try googling local pet sitters, some come in several times a day do walks, feeding etc others will actually stay in your home whilst your away, they generally dont cost much more than kennels either.

YANBU - tell him what will happen if he does back out.

Just ensure they have relevent insurence coverage.

I have explained to him that I will lose £300 and have the in laws bad mouthing me even more than usual (going because they are the dc's gp's and 50yrs is an accomplishment and not to be sniffed at)

I have rung a couple of dog sitters but no one available this weekend.

Not sure if this is helpful, but the dog kennels I use near York don't insist on kennel cough - as long as the other vacs are up to date that's fine. They are called Moss End Kennels and are near Alne on the A19. I think they take in small furries too.

Thanks I will Google them and give them a call. The terrier gets really car sick but maybe the vet could give her something (tried pet shop remedies with no effect) but would be better than not going. Weve all been looking forward to it.
