AIBU to exercise when I live in a flat?

Would like some opinions.

I have some one living underneath me (don't know them) and I want to do an exercise video (the shred)

I know it will possibly sound like I'm jumping on their ceiling as the people above me sometimes have a drunken dancing session on a Friday/Saturday and it is loud and annoying.

So would it be unreasonable for me to do this?

Ooh this is me. I was doing the shred at 5.30am and the jumping caused a bit of noise (am also in a flat). I found a spot where the floorboards were more robust and did a bit of jumping around there. It wasn't as intense as I liked but I still had a decent workout.

ChessieFL · 18/10/2013 19:20

Can you do it when your neighbour is likely to be out?

HulaHooperStormTrooper · 18/10/2013 19:21

Could you do it while they are at work?

Why don't you go and knock on their door, introduce yourself and just say that you will be doing "the exercise". Usually people are a lot less arsey if they know whats going on.

OHforDUCKScake · 18/10/2013 19:25

You can jump light footidly (new word), or at least more so than you would if you didnt need to be careful.
I speak from experience.

Id still do it, although Id attempt to do it when they werent home. Unless I hated them Grin

Donkeyok · 18/10/2013 19:26

Get a thick exercise mat and time it when their out.
Your entitled to do what you like in your flat as long as you are not harassing others, even if you have been harassed before.

holidaysarenice · 18/10/2013 19:32

5.30 am is highly unreasonable and quite frankly knobbish. It would have be battering your ceiling.

As long as its at a reasonable time I see nothing wrong with it. If you can, do it on carpet or a thick rug to reduce the noise etc.

After all its only 30 mins!

I think the man works but as far as know the women is a SAHM.

give and take as long as you do it at reasonable hours. 5:30 am is not reasonable hours.

BrokenSunglasses · 18/10/2013 19:36

Yanbu. Shred doesn't last long and hearing other people noise is just a normal part of living in a flat.

OctoberNights · 18/10/2013 19:39

I'd still be asleep at 5.30am

5.30am is BU Id say after 8am fine

my downstairs neighbour would crucify you!! I get banging on the ceiling even when im doing stuff midday!! despite the fact she has wild all night long parties, im apparently not allowed to walk around in my own flat!! things have improved greatly since I bought a stereo WinkGrin

ArtVandelay · 18/10/2013 19:41

DH and I once did 3 weeks of Shaun T's insanity in our flat. That's 145 kilos pounding the floor! I asked our downstairs neighbour if she heard anything but she said she didn't (we have concrete floors but no carpets). I'd just check if I were you, if I knew the neighbour well I'd send them upstairs to bounce around and then do it myself so you can both make a reasonable judgement and then work it out. Does the neighbour want too join you in shredding?

Donkeyok · 18/10/2013 19:52

ArtVanDelay did you get the t shirt? Smile

aroomofherown · 18/10/2013 19:58

Wasn't knobbish, but thanks anyway Hmm. The neighbours below don't have their bedroom beneath my shred space, and I didn't jump around until I found the robust floorboards were discovered, and even then I was light-footed so it didn't make a noise.

It IS possible.

holidaysarenice · 18/10/2013 20:01

Maybe we should let ur neighbours decide... aroomofherown

aroomofherown · 18/10/2013 20:03

Thanks for the advice holidays but I talk to them and they've not noticed a problem.

OctoberNights · 18/10/2013 20:20

I was thinking of doing it about 7.30 whilst watching fraiser

I'd be doing it my livingroom so not over their bedrooms

Hi October

I have the same dilemma. Last week I thought of a solution. The flat below is built with the same layout. So I am going to exercise in the spare room. The chances of that causing annoyance are hopefully slim. Maybe you can do the same?

ArtVandelay · 19/10/2013 00:51

No Donkey, just a clear idea of my limitations :( I just can't dig that deep.
