To say 9am is to early?

I am a secondary maths teacher and I have been tutoring my cousin's daughter (free of charge). I usually go round at 11am each Saturday however she has asked me can I do it tomorrow at 9am. I have just finished for half term and really want a sleep-in followed by a nice cooked breakfast. WIBU to say no to tutoring her tomorrow? She will not be sitting this test until next year by the way.

You are doing her a favour! - fine to say it's 11am

BeScarefulWhatYouWitchFor · 18/10/2013 19:07

YANBU If she wants to dictate the time then she can pay someone.

CunfuddledAlways · 18/10/2013 19:07

or tell her that 9am has a charge!!

Donkeyok · 18/10/2013 19:08

Your 2nd cousin? is family so why would you not feel comfortable saying you don't want to do it at 9am? Just say I need a break lets get after 1/2 term gawd knows teachers need a break. It would probably be good for her to have rest and come back refreshed too. Otherwise I think you should put it on a financial basis.
You have been very generous and she has been very lucky.
Thanks for the teacher

CoffeeTea103 · 18/10/2013 19:12

Yanbu you are doing this as a favour and should be on your terms.

Bowlersarm · 18/10/2013 19:14

Blimey, tell her no, it doesn't suit you.

SparkleSoiree · 18/10/2013 19:16

YANBU. It's the weekend, you have other plans before 11am.

Howsuper · 18/10/2013 19:16

Oh come on, OP. You know no-one's going to say YABU because, well, you aren't.

You really mean was your cousin U to ask this of you...yes she was. If someone's doing you a very big favour as you are, you don't ask them to put themselves out even more.

Enjoy your lie in!

ReluctantBeing · 18/10/2013 19:17

Just say no because you want a lie in.

HopeS01 · 18/10/2013 19:18

Just say 9am doesn't work for you for the above reasons, perfectly understandable Smile ... And don't worry so much!

Sparklysilversequins · 18/10/2013 19:19

Chance, none!

jjazz · 18/10/2013 19:40

Too early. Can't blame you for wanting a lie- but not your spelling. Glad your not an English teacher. ;-)

Sparklysilversequins · 18/10/2013 19:44

Glad YOU'RE not either jjazz.

HopeS01 · 18/10/2013 19:48

Sparkly HAHA

boodles · 18/10/2013 19:50

Erm, why wouldn't you just say no, 11am is better for me?

marriedinwhiteisback · 18/10/2013 21:00

I'd be a coward OP or perhaps emotionally intelligent and just say "well I have a fee paying customer at 9.30 and I'm awfully sorry but I can't change the arrangement with them. Smile

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 18/10/2013 21:11

They anbu to ask but yanbu to refuse to change the time

9am as early depends on the person or family. I don't think it's wrong that they suggested it, they may even have thought it might suit you by allowing you the rest of your day free. But yanbu at all to say no stick to 11am. If they have plans this week then you could do 9am as a one off or skip a week, up to you.

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 18/10/2013 21:16

'to'instead of 'too'? Come on folks, these people are teaching our children!

junkfoodaddict · 18/10/2013 21:22

hyperventilating at your own MISTAKE?

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 18/10/2013 21:28

I think it was reasonable of her to ask, I think it's reasonable for you to suit yourself. If it doesn't suit you, just say so - arrange a different time or skip it this week... really not a big deal.

wispywoo1 · 18/10/2013 22:07

Buzzard I clearly know the difference between too and to. I even know we're, wear, where etc :-) we're all allowed typos...

Well I've told her I'm busy tomorrow morning!
