Just seen an advert for these. They are weird and spook me out!

They are freaky. I would be able to sleep with one of those things in the house, never mind the kids!

It looks evil! Like a Xmas version of Chuckie!

Bogeyface · 18/10/2013 18:33

wouldnt not would!

They are creepy. my kids have had it for 2 years. they named him Crazy Johnny (making me think "heeeeere's johnny!" every time I see him). I am shot at remembering to move him every day. my 7 year old spends all his time plotting to kidnap it for extortion of Santa/bury it in the garden and tell Santa he just didn't show up this year or other schemes to avoid Father Christmas knowing how bad he is being. Crazy Johnny was good when my son was in hospital for two weeks last December though... a sweet distraction.

Yep. Cool, but I don't know how well it would go over with DS2 (4yo).

I'm planning on using this instead....

www.enchanteddoorways.co.uk/page3.htm

There's a couple Christmas doorways towards the bottom. Much cheaper. I'll put it by the tree and then have little gifts "appear" in the mornings - or have things "gotten in to" or "moved" by the Christmas elf. This way they'll never SEE the elf. I'll fix the door and tell them the door is magic and only opens for elves. And on the first day, will print up a tiny scroll with the Elf's name and an introduction and tie it up with a ribbon and put it on the tree for the children to find. (we put our tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving).

Much much cheaper than the Elf on a Shelf as well.

Triggle why would you do anything though?

I prefer the old school method of "Right, that's it I am ringing Santa!!!!!" always works :o Although I did set up a new email address that DS is absolutely certain is Santa's email and gets absolutely terrified if I get pissed off with him and then start using the PC "Are you emailing Santa?!!" "Not YET" [evil emoticon]

Trigglesx · 19/10/2013 17:05

I'm not doing it to keep them in line. I just think it will be fun - for them and me a little bit. I suppose it never hurts to point out that the elf will be reporting back to Father Christmas, but that's not really the main point.

We got one from www.theelfcompany.com It's much cuter than the elf on the shelf and not at all scary! My two absolutely love him and fight over who gets to carry him around in the rucksack he came with!! Think I should probably get a second this year to avoid WWIII! x
