To think my neighbours are twats?

I live in the country. Lovely place, lots of horses and dogs. We have a neighbour about 700m down the road. (There are other neighbours but this one is the twatty one)

They have a large set of gates closing off the entrance of their property. Big enough to get 2 cars through. They also have quite a few dogs. The dogs are contained if the gates are closed.

The problem is they don't always close the gates. Some of the dogs stay inside but two in particular don't. Their morbidly obese rather large lab sits in the middle of the road and won't move. Their border collie chases cars. She comes out of nowhere in is quite fast. I nearly ran her over once when she was a puppy.

AIBU to think my neighbours are selfish, lazy twats and hope it doesn't take one of their dogs getting killed before thy come to their senses?

YANBU at all

But what did they say when you spoke to them about it?

If they weren't interested then perhaps it's time to call the council/dial 101 before they cause a serious accident?

ShowMeYourTARDIS · 15/10/2013 16:38

Have never met the neighbors despite them living here for at least 7 years. I do not do well with c

Do not live in the UK and we don't have a council or anything similar.

I do not do well with confrontation. I cry. Blush

Um, is this Ireland? Cos in the country there a lot of people do this and it is accepted. Perhaps true of other countries too.

ShowMeYourTARDIS · 15/10/2013 16:47

Not Ireland. They are the only ones who don't keep their dogs contained.

Well if you won't talk to them about it then YABU

You dont need to be confrontational

Whereisegg · 15/10/2013 16:57

You don't need to be confrontational at all, be worried, say that either you have nearly hit their dogs because they are out or you have witnessed them nearly being hit by others.

Boardingblues · 15/10/2013 16:59

Complaining but not doing anything about it? Yep, YABU! Why would talking to them about it be a confrontation? Sounds like you are building this up in your head and projecting quite a lot here!

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2013 17:01

It's not confrontation though is it?

Just a friendly conversation.

FriskyHenderson · 15/10/2013 17:01

Can you attach a note to the dog next time?

Cluffyflump · 15/10/2013 17:03

Lots of people do it here too. Mostly farmers.
I just get used to where the dogs are likely to be and to be fair, the dogs seem to have a bit of road sense.
Maybe it's just country life?

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 15/10/2013 17:04

Whats the point in this thread, if you are not going to act on it.

CrohnicallyLurking · 15/10/2013 17:42

If the dog is friendly, maybe take it back with a cheery 'oh, one of your dogs escaped, thought I'd better bring him back!'

Grunzlewheek · 15/10/2013 18:58

My Twatty neighbour does the opposite, her dogs are contained, but all her "staff" gardeners/cleaners/friends (?) can't get into her drive to park so just park in front of my gate ! Angry

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 15/10/2013 19:15

In fairness, it shouldn't take OP having a word with them for them to realise they are twats.

Unfortunately I think saying anything would be a waste of time. They aren't morons who have never considered that cars drive on their road. They don't need educating about what is perfectly obvious.

They just don't give much of a shit about their dogs.
