I was cooking chilli chicken for tea, veg peeled and chopped, sauce ingredients measured out and chicken ready. Dp was dealing with ds and dsd.

ds started creating and wanted me so we swapped. I gave dp step by step instructions.

dp called me into the kitchen, he hadn't listened to the instructions had tipped the two spoons of oil into the pan fried the onion, chilli and garlic but instead of adding the soy sauce, sugar and vinegar to make the sauce, he added the veg and chicken.

I suggested adding the other ingredients at this point but he wanted to take everything out of the pan, put the soy sauce vinegar and sugar in and then put the other stuff back in. I said the stuff would evaporate away. He still disagreed so I said do what you think is best, your cooking.

Dp thought it would be best to serve up chicken and vegetables coated in two tablespoons of olive oil and leave the other stuff out.

Aibu to think that is not edible or is my judgement being clouded by my disappointment in the loss of my lovely chilli chicken?

I'd be mad. YANBU.

My OH can't cook for shite either.

quoteunquote · 13/10/2013 18:34

Well sounds like he needs more practice, make sure you take it in turns from now on.

GhostsInSnow · 13/10/2013 18:35

YANBU. Mine interferes. Drives me batty. He can cook, simple things like chips and a ready meal, fajitas etc but other stuff he just has to come in and have a stir of whatever is on the stove.
I had a fancying for some really crispy bacon the other week, put it in the pan, turned my back for a second and the whole pan was swimming in olive oil. Ended up removing bacon, kitchen towelling the added grease off, washing the pan and then starting again all whilst moaning if he touched my bacon again I'd chop off his fingers Blush

I would have just chucked everything in and hoped for the best. How was it?

AnnaBegins · 13/10/2013 18:38

Could you soak up some of the oil with kitchen roll or similar, fry off for a bit and make a separate sauce?

DH and I cook so differently, so I can see that coming in half way through would be hard even if he can cook! Though he should have listened.

NachoAddict · 13/10/2013 19:23

He had served it up before I knew what he had decided to do. I couldn't eat it though I could see the grease all over the plate.

Everything he cooks is swimming in grease so I shouldn't have been surprised really, I was just so disappointed.

haha juice that is exactly what he would do too. Plus everything is cooked on full heat, othing simmered or gently fried in this house.

Did he use a serving spoon for the oil?

NachoAddict · 13/10/2013 19:34

He just tipped it from the bottle, it was the only thing not measured.

I'm always pleased when anyone else cooks anything; and yes, you are being unreasonable and a bit of a control freak. To be fair you had told him I said do what you think is best, your cooking. so unfortunately the result wasn't to your taste, so hey ho, that's the way the chilli chicken crumbles

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 13/10/2013 19:52

It'll be poo this time tomorrow, don't fret.

NachoAddict · 13/10/2013 20:05

Haha 20quid quite right.

I will choose my words more carefully next time itsnotsnowingyet do what you think is best except serve me a plate of grease. That was dp's exact argument though.

I said at what point did you think it would be a good idea to leave out half the ingredients? He replied, when you told me to do what I thought was best!!

We are over it now btw, its not a huge offense, I just had a sharing bag of Doritos for tea instead, not a bad result really ??
