Being totally, mind numbingly bored on a Sunday

ErinExquisite001 · 13/10/2013 11:42

DH left for training with the RAF less than a week ago. Iv tried to keep busy this week but today, as its Sunday and the weather is atrocious, I am stuck in with my 14 month old bored as hell. All DD wants to do is follow me around and destroy things. So even cleaning isn't a option.Confused
Is it unreasonable to say that today my daughter, her tv programmes, her toys and her constant following me about is rather annoying me?! Grin

Welcome to my world! DH currently working away in Africa for 8 weeks, I have just had ankle surgery (therefore hobbling on crutches) and have 2 bored children to entertain all day.

Luckily my fab neighbours are having us all over for dinner at 4pm.

Hope it's a quick day for you!

verytellytubby · 13/10/2013 11:45

Swimming/soft play?

Bingdweller · 13/10/2013 11:48

My 2 loved playing shops/kitchens when they were little. It involved hauling all the pots, pans, wooden spoons etc. out of the cupboard and sacrificing a packet of uncooked pasta to stir in numerous pans. Lots of mileage out of that game!

ErinExquisite001 · 13/10/2013 11:50

Bingdweller I need something to break up my day like that. I'm hoping I get the hang of making it bareable as the weeks go on.

It's awful rain out and I sort of resigned myself to the fact we weren't going out. Think I need to pull my finger out dont I! Urgh haha

Hmm I think the pans and wooden spoon will do actually!
I thought maybe messy play...but then I couldn't be bothered with the mess hahaa. Oh dearSmile

Speaking as someone who was meant to be getting on with chores today (I have a curtain pole to put up which has been sitting there for a week now), I can only advise putting down the phone / iPad / laptop and moving far away from MN. Sucks the day away

She says still typing on it..... Blush

Having decided to do 3 loads of washing and having got 5 rabbits out in the garden it is now pouring with rain. So washing hanging up in the kitchen and rabbits now covered over with a tarpaulin and with hutches to shelter in. DS moaning about everything my DH and I are watching on the TV I think today is going to be a long day, can't even go upstairs and make a noise because DD is in bed after doing 5.30 till 10.30 in work and then she has to work tonight 5.30 till 11.30.

TheCrumpetQueen · 13/10/2013 12:40

If you aren't going to go out whenever it's raining in this country you're in for a looooong boring ride!

I took my 10 month old out at 10.30 this morning for a baby class and met up with friends for coffee after otherwise I would've been bored to tears, with ds following me everywhere. It all breaks the day up.

How about doing painting/messy play inside? Bake a cake?

sausageandorangepickle · 13/10/2013 12:45

I feel your pain OP. DH works every sunday, and I'm potty training DS3, so no going too far from the potty!! We have found a big plastic tablecloth and spread it over the carpet to playdoh and draw/paint (and will make it easier if he has an accident too!)

nennypops · 13/10/2013 14:12

I'm loving my quiet Sunday, apart from the fact that I've got an awful cold. But it's the perfect excuse to retire to bed with a laptop and a good book and stay cosy and warm.

CanadianJohn · 13/10/2013 15:00

Been a long while since I've had a baby, even a grandchild. However, there is so much to do...

I'm watching the Chicago marathon right now, and then I'm going to squeeze in a quick trip to the stores with Belovéd before the Detroit Lions' game at 1.00. Then, there is baseball this evening.

How can anyone be bored. Wink

ErinExquisite001 · 13/10/2013 15:40

I am not they type that gets bored, but some days with a small one just are boring. Wish I could take myself off to bed to read but DD would go MAD haha.
Am I totally out of it to have thought there were no baby groups on a Sunday??? Il have to try find one and go next week!

Are you in London? I could recommend one!

TheCrumpetQueen · 13/10/2013 18:07

Sunday baby groups are the best, I usually get dp to take ds so I can have a break. There should be more weekend baby groups for this very reason!

jjazz · 13/10/2013 18:28

How about thinking about those in east India who's homes have been washed or blown away. Get some perspective.

lessonsintightropes · 13/10/2013 18:51

jjazz I have some pearls you can borrow to clutch if you'd like? OP is not unreasonably just getting on with her day and asking for some helpful suggestions - obviously what has happened in India is terrible but I don't think your little 'suggestion' was particularly constructive or pleasant...

ThePearShapedToad · 13/10/2013 19:08

jjazz, it's a lighthearted thread for a rainy and grey Sunday

OP, it's now past 7pm, you can break out the wine Smile

ErinExquisite001 · 13/10/2013 19:54

Thecrumpetqueen, unfortunately not, I'm in Manchester, il have to get on google!
Thepearshapedtoad...dd has been in bed since 7. I'm sitting back watching corra with my feet up. The wine is waiting for my tea to cook. Aahh! Wink aaand relax!!!

jjazz · 13/10/2013 20:52

OP not light hearted IMO. Just a pointless winge fest

FloozeyLoozey · 13/10/2013 21:08

How sad that some of the women on here are bored due to their dp's absence. As a single parent I would be permanently bored if I used that as an excuse!

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2013 21:12

Interesting about Sunday babygroups. I used to run a Sarturday one, which stopped running after a year as we only got 1 or 2 people after the first few months.

TheCrumpetQueen · 13/10/2013 21:22

This one is bloody packed! Could hardly sit down. It was in a coffee shop though so was 'two birds one stone' sort of thing

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 13/10/2013 21:28

That's what Sundays are for.

ErinExquisite001 · 13/10/2013 23:09

Floozyloozy...give me a bloody break my DH left for his RAF training on Tuesday. This is his basic training so first time I'm living alone with our daughter and its my first Sunday.
Jjazz... FYI yes, it was lighthearted.
Aah you two are even cheerier than I :-|
