To do a Miley Cyrus haircut at my age?

Sallystyle · 11/10/2013 09:30

I am 33.

Most people I have asked have said no, but I can't help but love it and I already have short hair so it won't be a huge difference.

Just go for it, you're still young. It's easy to grow out quickly if you don't like it afterwards.

sparkle12mar08 · 11/10/2013 09:39

I think it looks silly on grown women, sorry! What kind of work do you do? - it wouldn't be allowed in most professional environments I know of so you might want to consider the wider impacts?

anon2013 · 11/10/2013 09:41

Why not? Smile go for it. Resist the urge to start twerking though.

flipchart · 11/10/2013 09:42

To be honest the hair style in the picture is not too way out.
The best person to ask is your hairdresser who will adapt it to suit the shape of your face.
A load of random s on the Internet who know jack about you aren't going to br helpful.

BenNJerry · 11/10/2013 09:43

Go for it, if you want. Please please refrain from twerking with your tongue out though. Wink

LessMissAbs · 11/10/2013 09:45

I don't think its a matter of age but more about whats acceptable in your work environment. I know I wouldn't get away with it at work. I actually saw someone with it at the gym and its very obviously a copycat haircut and looked very punky. Remember too Miley Cyrus is professionally made up every time she is photographed with that haircut, I think it risks being scruffy or overly punky otherwise.

Fair dos if you are of course a punk and your workplace is tolerant of unusual hairstyles.

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/10/2013 09:46

It's the first picture I've seen of her without her tongue hanging out.
Very short hair suits very few people, you need the right bone structure.

livinginwonderland · 11/10/2013 09:47

It's upto you! It's hair, it grows out. A lady I work with (must be late twenties/early thirties) has the same hairstyle and it really suits her. She does have quite an alternative style in general, though - tattoos, multiple ear and facial piercings, etc.

BecauseYoureGorgeous · 11/10/2013 09:48

Go for it!

Sallystyle · 11/10/2013 09:50

I am a SAHM

I can't twerk :( Tried to once and my husband asked me if I was having some kind of fit.

My hair is short already and I would keep the front bit a little longer, so the only main difference would be the shaved side.

Thanks everyone.

I say go for it. Age and bone structure are not as important for a haircut. I find scissors the best instrument ;) I say this as a women with short hair. When I first did it people were shocked, for some reason, but got over it. It hasn't been long in 15 years and I sometimes grow it a little longer then shave it off completely. I couldn't give a flying fig who else likes it. It's my head.

mum11970 · 11/10/2013 09:52

Friend of mine has one, she's in her 30s and it suits her. Go for it.

CoffeeTea103 · 11/10/2013 09:54

Sorry but it only looks as good as it can be because she can pull it off. Looks silly otherwise.

flipchart · 11/10/2013 09:57

I've seen loads of women of varying ages with it and in different professions and it looks good.

The nurse who dealt with DS 1 about a month ago was in her 40s I'd guess and it looked ok on her. I suspected she would look good with her make up on and out of uniform!

I won't have it done because it took a quarter of a century to get mine long!

whysoglum · 11/10/2013 10:03

It's awful imho. And you will look like you're copying Miley which you are. Yes it will grow out but in the meantime you'll have an awful haircut.

Up to you though.

elcranko · 11/10/2013 10:31

I think you should go for it! As others have said, it will grow out soon enough if you don't like it. Plus it's getting colder now so you can wear hats when you go out if you don't like it. Smile

mrsjay · 11/10/2013 10:33

I think if you like it get it I thought you meant her sticky up hair do you are maybe a wee bit old for that but at 32 I think you should get it, please dont be taken over by the power of miley though keep your butt still and your tongue in your mouth Grin

Stravy · 11/10/2013 10:34

I'm much older than you and have had this style, or a variation of for about 4-5 years. I had no idea it was unprofessional.

mrsjay · 11/10/2013 10:34

My sister is 30 and she had the side of her head shaved in last year with a longish bit at the front it was nice it suited her, although she didnt have it long as the shaved bits needed doing every week

pigletmania · 11/10/2013 10:47

Go for it, I had an Alex Parks [fame academy], haircut last year and it knocked years off me

Sallystyle · 11/10/2013 11:13

I love Alex Park's hair!

I think I am going to go for it :)

I say YANBU. I had my hair cut earlier this year. Previously it was really long but wass not glossy and swinging - it was both fine and frizzy at once and made me look a hideous combination of older (tired, washed out) and younger (pony tail, no obvious style) than my years (I was 33). I took a photo of Michelle Williams to the hairdresser. She was rather aghast at such a massive change and spent about twenty minutes checking I was sure but I went for it and it was the best hair-related decision I ever made. I felt like a celebrity - I got so many compliments and just felt so much better!

pigletmania · 11/10/2013 14:01

Yes go for it samu I'm 36 btw. Alex parks hair is great

WandaDoff · 11/10/2013 14:08

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT

I got mine cut short a few months back, then I dyed it pink, then I cut it even SHORTER.

& I love it Smile

It only takes a few mins to wash & dry & style it, I wish I'd done it years ago.

I'm 33.
