To note that since having children I will never feel cold again...?

I used to feel the cold sooo much, constantly wearing layers and whinging at DP to turn on heating. I have a picture of me making Christmas dinner the year before DD1 was born and I'm wearing a wool hat and down gilet in the kitchen!!

I basically got the pregnancy heat with DD1 and never lost it (she's now 2.3 yrs old).

It's amazing...I was walking round today in jeans and t shirt, I'm wearing a nightie to bed instead of 2 pairs of pyjamas.

Is this a recognised biological post-children THING or am I weird though very happy that my internal thermostat has revved up

Thank goodness someone else said it. I am a constant pile if heat after being nicknamed 'the ice queen' my adult life! I hate it though, I am constantly asking people to turn the hearing down and at the first sign of heat inside it our I am a sweaty faced mess! So much so I had to change to Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation to try to hang on to it during the average day.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 05/10/2013 22:15

Maybe your hormones have been balanced? Before I had dc I always used to get spots but now I never get them!

doorbellringer · 05/10/2013 22:16
  • it our is rather odd and I didn't put them there. Must be the heat - said it would be a balmy 13 round our way! Grin
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/10/2013 22:16

Hahaha. I though you were going to say that you used them as hot water bottles at night. Just me who brings DS in with me when DH is away and I'm chilly then? Blush

HandMini · 05/10/2013 22:16

Ah, my spots came back after three blissful years of being pregnant and/or breastfeeding. Sad. But the heat thing.....ahhh, I love it. The joy of feeling toasty through winter.

I'm the same, but havent had children. I think it's just age.

HandMini · 05/10/2013 22:17

Oh, I do also use the children as hot water bottles, especially the snugly chubsome 8 mo.

I didn't get this! I still feel the cold :(

doorbellringer · 05/10/2013 22:18

thebreastmilksonme I actually suspected the opposite. I thought I has never rebalanced after pregnancy.

HandMini · 05/10/2013 22:21

I think I felt balanced while preg / BFing, but not before / since. That must be wrong tho as our bodies aren't designed to be perma-pregnant.

Creature - never mind, you can do the child-as-hot-water-bottle thing!

Ha - wait until your delightful offspring take up sports that are played outside during the winter... I can guarantee that standing in a field watching a few football/rugby/hockey matches in the cold/rain/drizzle/sleet/snow will definitely cool ya down

Having said that I'm currently feeling the inappropriately timed heat at the mo so I'm actually looking forward to this winter hoping I might be able to lose a layer or two!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/10/2013 22:21

Chubsome... What an awesome word!

My internal thermometer is all over the place after DC and early menopause but I definitely feel warmer than before. I was never quite as bad as you OP though.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 05/10/2013 22:21

I'm the opposite. I now complain about being cold so much that dh thinks my circulation is up the duff.

doorbellringer · 05/10/2013 22:21

I seriously hate it as I feel I can't wear stuff with sleeves for fear of getting "musty" ie pongy. I mentioned it to a nurse when getting smear and she said I should consider getting thyroid checked. I never did though.

HandMini · 05/10/2013 22:25

Rahaha - I shall encourage outdoor winter pursuits! Toddler DD already puts me to the test with her love of playground-in-all-weathers.

So it sounds like it must be a hormone thing, I guess similar to menopausal hot flushes but longer lasting.

I am the same, was always freezing until I had DD and now to my amazement other people now feel cold in my house where I'm comfortable. Such a joy to be warm all the time. I was sweltering in pregnancy but now my body temperature has settled at a slightly higher temperature than pre-DC.

Devora · 05/10/2013 22:37

Yes! And if you leave childbearing as late as I did, you can segue delightfully into hot flashes...

My spots never came back either. 8 years and counting...

Dogsmom · 05/10/2013 22:41

Me too, how odd.
I used to be permanently cold, I'd wrap up in summer when everyone else was in strappy tops and had the heating on 365 days a year but now (dd is 7 months old) and I'm always warm.
In fact I'm currently lay in bed starkers, in OCTOBER!!
