to cancel visit as dh has possible shingles

PIL are both 84. Don't think visiting them tomorrow is wise as GP thinks dh may have shingles. He has pain in ribs, back and even deodorant hurts under one armpit. He has no rash but is tired.

I'd cancel

But have the PIL had chickenpox or shingles themselves? If so, they can't catch it from him. But you would need to keep him away from any children who have not had chickenpox, because they could catch it from him.

Not worth the risk imo. Rearrange for another time.

He is unwell regardless if it is shingles.

He is best at home resting as much as possible.

Shingles isn't contagious except that it can cause chickenpox in those who haven't already had it.

If your concern is elderly relatives catching something, as long as they have had chickenpox, they will be immune. They can't get shingles from your DH.

If he isn't feeling well, he should just stay home and get better, but if he feels physically ok tomorrow, there is no risk of them getting ill.

If elderly relatives haven't had chicken pox, definitely don't go as this could be really serious in an older person.

Any other relatives who haven't had chicken pox will also be susceptible, so check first.

You need to ask PILs if they've had CP. And ask if they want to see DH even if he's unwell. (They may well say 'fine' he's still their baby!)

was hoping to gain freedom from PIL's this weekend. Dh

Shingles can be awful, though, shouldn't t he be resting?
