i can't fathom it out - it's taking me an hour to shop for about 15 items. why does everyone rave about it? Am I missing something?!!

I find it the quickest online experience for shopping! Just type all the items you want into search rather than aisle/category search

ModeratelyObvious · 04/10/2013 20:13

Once you've done it a few times it stores your favourites, Instant Shop etc

trashcansinatra · 04/10/2013 20:24

Never a problem for us...

I've added all my regular items to My Favourites and shopping takes 5 mins. Then when I have more time I browse for new things and add them to my shopping list. No problems at all.

BsshBossh · 04/10/2013 20:32

Oh yes, I love the Search - use it all the time to look for specific items (then add them to Favourites so I don't lose again).

ModeratelyObvious · 04/10/2013 20:41

The app is better than the website, IMHO.

Somethingyesterday · 04/10/2013 20:44

Is this the first time you are using the website? It does take ages the first time (but that's the same for any online grocery.)

Once you've done the first shop all your purchases will be stored in a list - so next time you can click on regular items without having to look them up.

I've found it far quicker and slicker than any other. They have everything I need and most of what I want. (Fruit is not great....)

The delivery men are in a different league. (To other places I could name...) Eager, helpful. (One once uncomplainingly carried two crates up several flights of stairs when I didn't know a lift wasn't working. When I apologised he just laughed.)

Somethingyesterday · 04/10/2013 20:45

And yes - app is best. And phone is imo better than ipad.

PuppyMonkey · 04/10/2013 20:48

And Aldi's better than all of them Wink

MrsWooster · 04/10/2013 20:55

first time is AWFUL but then, if you have saved that initial shop as a list (mine's called Usual Shop)| you just add all to the trolley and delete what you don't want this week. Full shop takes about 10 minutes, tho layers of checkout as they try and flog you extra things IS a bit of a PITA. Delivery men are great my DP is one!

Mintyy · 04/10/2013 20:59

Do "search for a list of items" and just type in what you would put on your normal shopping list eg

eggs
strawberry jam
pg tips
felix cat food

whatever.

The top 5 or 6 most likely items will pop up, and you just click on the one you want. In the unlikely event that the thing you want hasn't been shown to you, you can just click on a "show more items" button or something like that.

SueDoku · 04/10/2013 21:00

They are fantastic. Easy, quick, list can be edited (or delivery date changed) with no trouble at all - and very, very few substitutions Smile

Somethingyesterday · 04/10/2013 21:06

MrsWooster surely your list is automatically saved?

What I like best is adding things to the trolley as I remember them over days or weeks. (And then deleting them as I come to my senses....)

thompson369 · 04/10/2013 21:06

www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/new-customer-ocado-offer-£25-your-first-shop

Use this voucher to get £25 off if you spend over £100.

bsc · 04/10/2013 21:13

The search makes me laugh though- when one searches for mango, for example, and some of the items are things such as mango-scented shower gel etc!

Mintyy · 04/10/2013 23:24

Why does that make you laugh?

bsc · 05/10/2013 17:11

Sorry, Minty- I just find it funny, that if I'm looking for strawberries, I would be satisfied with strawberry handwash!

Surely, if one was looking for shower gel, you'd search for "shower gel"?
Maybe it's just me?

quoteunquote · 05/10/2013 17:36

They don't sell in our area.

DamnBamboo · 05/10/2013 17:39

Why is it taking you an hour?

Enter milk into search box and milk options appear.
Enter bananas into search box and banana options appear.

Repeat until done.

What is confusing or difficult about this? Unless you are choosing to shop around and compare which of course will take time.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 05/10/2013 17:42

Type what you want into the search box

Then once you've chosen the item, you can put it onto a list by clicking onto the list icon

Next time your shop will be much quicker

KenAdams · 05/10/2013 17:43

I tried them for the first time the other day and was quite impressed. Keep the receipt when they deliver as they list everything in order of use by date.

Living Social have got a good deal on right now, £25 for £30 worth of shopping and a free annual midweek delivery pass.

SilverLining · 05/10/2013 17:44

I LOVE it too - been using them since they started with v few issues at all. Altho the time I was rushing and needed detangling spray for my DDs hair and when it arrived realised it was actually for dogs was a stand out moment....Wink

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 05/10/2013 17:45

Actually, even if you don't put it in a list you can still search for your last order under "My Ocado" and use that order as the basis for your next one

ExcuseTypos · 05/10/2013 17:51

I just use the search button at the top for everything. When you've used it a few times the things you've bought before, come up first.
So if I put in shampoo, the brands I usually buy will be shown first.

Very quick and easy.
