to want to chop my head off?

Well to be more precise one quadrant of my face around my right eye...

I have taken the most horrific headache I've ever known this afternoon. In the end had to go to bed about 3 hours ago as I felt so nauseous with it. Throbbing, pulsing right behind my eye, feels like it's going to explode. Latest painkillers have eased it enough to stop complete meltdown but it's been hours of sheer torture.

Is this a migraine? Never had bad headache like this before. I've had to turn down the light in my phone as screen is hurting my eyes.

I don't think I'm normally a wuss but this hurts!! And poor dh has been left with carnage of our house and 3 crotchety kids all afternoon.

The chopping seems very appealing right now... Sad

I mean ice had to turn down phone now I've lifted it, I haven't been sitting with it in my face all afternoon. Been trying to sleep but it hasn't been working, so occasionally picking up the phone to try to distract myself

Sounds like my migraines. Normal painkillers barely touch it if at all. Only thing that works for me is imigran, it's a tablet specifically for migraines.

You can buy it over the counter but its expensive, about £8 for two tablets but you can get them prescribed. I get six prescribed at a time which is still not cheap but much better than £24 over the counter.

nennypops · 29/09/2013 19:32

That does sound like a migraine, OP, but if you've never had one before it might be worth getting yourself to a doctor to check out.

When I have one I like having a radio on, turned down low - even better if it's one which will turn itself off after an our. It takes my mind off how awful I feel and sometimes will lull me to sleep.

nennypops · 29/09/2013 19:32

Friend of mine swears by Buccastem, I haven't tried it yet.

YouTheCat · 29/09/2013 19:34

Could be migraine. Or could be sinuses.

Have you tried ibruprofen?

Maggietess · 29/09/2013 19:38

Thanks for recommendations, hopefully it was have gone by morning but I might buy some of those tablets to have as standby. Never want this again!

Can you get migraine from stress? Is it like tension headache sort of thing. We are in the middle of trying to move house and between trying to juggle sale and purchase and all the bank and legal pointless crap stuff and actually packing with my youngest screaming every time I set him down for a second it would be fair to say I'm a tiny bit stressed.

My head's been banging a few times this week but nothing on today.

youthecat I had wondered about sinuses as we have all had colds this week. But could it be this bad from sinuses?

Can't take brufen unfortunately Sad

YouTheCat · 29/09/2013 19:42

Yes, sinus pain can be that bad. Mine used to be so bad that I couldn't move as moving made the pain worse.

I've never had pain with migraine. I just get disturbed vision aura things, and nausea - really bad nausea.

IfYouLoveSomebodyLetThemSleep · 29/09/2013 19:43

Sorry, no advice. I just wanted to give you a soothing head stroke with my cold hands and a get well soon.

crazykat · 29/09/2013 19:44

You can get stress/tension headaches but they tend to be across the forehead/temples IME. I get them and migraines. A stress headache can trigger a migraine for me but everyone has different triggers for migraines.

Maggietess · 29/09/2013 19:50

Aw thanks ifyoulovesomebody that's very kind! Actually cold hands sounds lovely, might investigate a cold cloth.

It is kind of across my temple and surrounding my eye so would make sinus sense I suppose. Dh is a doc but I haven't wanted to bother him with a blow by blow of symptoms as he's been a trooper with the kids and packing today. Bless him. He brought me the painkillers that seem to have taken the edge off the worst of it and made it more bearable again.

I'm going to try to get up shortly and go help again. Feel bad, short timescale til we have to be out and our house is a total and complete tip that's full of crap there's still a lot needs bucked in a skip packed.

I had a migraine today too. I take migraleve prescribed by the doctor .

SomethingOnce · 29/09/2013 19:54

Given MNers' penchant for DIY surgery, this sounds an entirely reasonable solution, but you will be expected to video the procedure.

DisappointedHorse · 29/09/2013 20:00

This sounds more like a cluster headache to me, DH is a sufferer and they're not fun. Is your eye red?

Hopefully it's a one off and you're on the mend now.

Maggietess · 29/09/2013 20:48

My eye doesn't seem overly red, although it is itchy.

Had a shower and feel a little more like I'm back in the land of the living. Hopefully this is it on the wane!

If it does come back and I feel the urge to chop again I promise to video it as I go for the benefit of mn Grin

When was your last eye test.

Maggietess · 29/09/2013 21:34

About a year ago I think, no change in my prescription for years so don't think it's that but worth checking if it's still a bad thus week. Thanks
